In this paper, we investigate the performances of tunable quantum neural networks in the Quantum Probably Approximately Correct (QPAC) learning framework. Tunable neural networks are quantum circuits made of multi-controlled X gates. By tuning the set of controls these circuits are able to approximate any Boolean functions. This architecture is particularly suited to be used in the QPAC-learning framework as it can handle the superposition produced by the oracle. In order to tune the network so that it can approximate a target concept, we have devised and implemented an algorithm based on amplitude amplification. The numerical results show that this approach can efficiently learn concepts from a simple class.

We study the problem of exact community recovery in the Geometric Stochastic Block Model (GSBM), where each vertex has an unknown community label as well as a known position, generated according to a Poisson point process in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Edges are formed independently conditioned on the community labels and positions, where vertices may only be connected by an edge if they are within a prescribed distance of each other. The GSBM thus favors the formation of dense local subgraphs, which commonly occur in real-world networks, a property that makes the GSBM qualitatively very different from the standard Stochastic Block Model (SBM). We propose a linear-time algorithm for exact community recovery, which succeeds down to the information-theoretic threshold, confirming a conjecture of Abbe, Baccelli, and Sankararaman. The algorithm involves two phases. The first phase exploits the density of local subgraphs to propagate estimated community labels among sufficiently occupied subregions, and produces an almost-exact vertex labeling. The second phase then refines the initial labels using a Poisson testing procedure. Thus, the GSBM enjoys local to global amplification just as the SBM, with the advantage of admitting an information-theoretically optimal, linear-time algorithm.

Inspired by human driving focus, this research pioneers networks augmented with Focusing Sampling, Partial Field of View Evaluation, Enhanced FPN architecture and Directional IoU Loss - targeted innovations addressing obstacles to precise lane detection for autonomous driving. Experiments demonstrate our Focusing Sampling strategy, emphasizing vital distant details unlike uniform approaches, significantly boosts both benchmark and practical curved/distant lane recognition accuracy essential for safety. While FENetV1 achieves state-of-the-art conventional metric performance via enhancements isolating perspective-aware contexts mimicking driver vision, FENetV2 proves most reliable on the proposed Partial Field analysis. Hence we specifically recommend V2 for practical lane navigation despite fractional degradation on standard entire-image measures. Future directions include collecting on-road data and integrating complementary dual frameworks to further breakthroughs guided by human perception principles. RAW to sRGB mapping, which aims to convert RAW images from smartphones into RGB form equivalent to that of Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras, has become an important area of research. However, current methods often ignore the difference between cell phone RAW images and DSLR camera RGB images, a difference that goes beyond the color matrix and extends to spatial structure due to resolution variations. Recent methods directly rebuild color mapping and spatial structure via shared deep representation, limiting optimal performance. Inspired by Image Signal Processing (ISP) pipeline, which distinguishes image restoration and enhancement, we present a novel Neural ISP framework, named FourierISP. This approach breaks the image down into style and structure within the frequency domain, allowing for independent optimization. FourierISP is comprised of three subnetworks: Phase Enhance Subnet for structural refinement, Amplitude Refine Subnet for color learning, and Color Adaptation Subnet for blending them in a smooth manner. This approach sharpens both color and structure, and extensive evaluations across varied datasets confirm that our approach realizes state-of-the-art results. To prevent the spread of disinformation on Instagram, we need to study the accounts and content of disinformation actors. However, due to their malicious nature, Instagram often bans accounts that are responsible for spreading disinformation, making these accounts inaccessible from the live web. The only way we can study the content of banned accounts is through public web archives such as the Internet Archive. However, there are many issues present with archiving Instagram pages. Specifically, we focused on the issue that many Wayback Machine Instagram mementos redirect to the Instagram login page. In this study, we determined that mementos of Instagram account pages on the Wayback Machine began redirecting to the Instagram login page in August 2019. We also found that Instagram mementos on Archive.today, Arquivo.pt, and Perma.cc are also not well archived in terms of quantity and quality. Moreover, we were unsuccessful in all our attempts to archive Katy Perry's Instagram account page on Archive.today, Arquivo.pt, and Conifer. Although in the minority, replayable Instagram mementos exist in public archives and contain valuable data for studying disinformation on Instagram. With that in mind, we developed a Python script to web scrape Instagram mementos. As of August 2023, the Python script can scrape Wayback Machine archives of Instagram account pages between November 7, 2012 and June 8, 2018.

In this paper, we solve the optimal target detection problem employing the thoughts and methodologies of Shannon's information theory. Introducing a target state variable into a general radar system model, an equivalent detection channel is derived, and the a posteriori probability distribution is given accordingly. Detection information (DI) is proposed for measuring system performance, which holds for any specific detection method. Moreover, we provide an analytic expression for the false alarm probability concerning the a priori probability. In particular, for a sufficiently large observation interval, the false alarm probability equals the a priori probability of the existing state. A stochastic detection method, the sampling a posteriori probability, is also proposed. The target detection theorem is proved mathematically, which indicates that DI is an achievable theoretical limit of target detection. Specifically, when empirical DI is gained from the sampling a posteriori detection method approaches the DI, the probability of failed decisions tends to be zero. Conversely, there is no detector whose empirical DI is more than DI. Numerical simulations are performed to verify the correctness of the theorems. The results demonstrate that the maximum a posteriori and the Neyman-Pearson detection methods are upper bounded by the theoretical limit.

It has been shown that deep neural networks are prone to overfitting on biased training data. Towards addressing this issue, meta-learning employs a meta model for correcting the training bias. Despite the promising performances, super slow training is currently the bottleneck in the meta learning approaches. In this paper, we introduce a novel Faster Meta Update Strategy (FaMUS) to replace the most expensive step in the meta gradient computation with a faster layer-wise approximation. We empirically find that FaMUS yields not only a reasonably accurate but also a low-variance approximation of the meta gradient. We conduct extensive experiments to verify the proposed method on two tasks. We show our method is able to save two-thirds of the training time while still maintaining the comparable or achieving even better generalization performance. In particular, our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance on both synthetic and realistic noisy labels, and obtains promising performance on long-tailed recognition on standard benchmarks.

This paper aims at revisiting Graph Convolutional Neural Networks by bridging the gap between spectral and spatial design of graph convolutions. We theoretically demonstrate some equivalence of the graph convolution process regardless it is designed in the spatial or the spectral domain. The obtained general framework allows to lead a spectral analysis of the most popular ConvGNNs, explaining their performance and showing their limits. Moreover, the proposed framework is used to design new convolutions in spectral domain with a custom frequency profile while applying them in the spatial domain. We also propose a generalization of the depthwise separable convolution framework for graph convolutional networks, what allows to decrease the total number of trainable parameters by keeping the capacity of the model. To the best of our knowledge, such a framework has never been used in the GNNs literature. Our proposals are evaluated on both transductive and inductive graph learning problems. Obtained results show the relevance of the proposed method and provide one of the first experimental evidence of transferability of spectral filter coefficients from one graph to another. Deep neural networks (DNNs) are successful in many computer vision tasks. However, the most accurate DNNs require millions of parameters and operations, making them energy, computation and memory intensive. This impedes the deployment of large DNNs in low-power devices with limited compute resources. Recent research improves DNN models by reducing the memory requirement, energy consumption, and number of operations without significantly decreasing the accuracy. This paper surveys the progress of low-power deep learning and computer vision, specifically in regards to inference, and discusses the methods for compacting and accelerating DNN models. The techniques can be divided into four major categories: (1) parameter quantization and pruning, (2) compressed convolutional filters and matrix factorization, (3) network architecture search, and (4) knowledge distillation. We analyze the accuracy, advantages, disadvantages, and potential solutions to the problems with the techniques in each category. We also discuss new evaluation metrics as a guideline for future research.

In this paper, we adopt 3D Convolutional Neural Networks to segment volumetric medical images. Although deep neural networks have been proven to be very effective on many 2D vision tasks, it is still challenging to apply them to 3D tasks due to the limited amount of annotated 3D data and limited computational resources. We propose a novel 3D-based coarse-to-fine framework to effectively and efficiently tackle these challenges. The proposed 3D-based framework outperforms the 2D counterpart to a large margin since it can leverage the rich spatial infor- mation along all three axes. We conduct experiments on two datasets which include healthy and pathological pancreases respectively, and achieve the current state-of-the-art in terms of Dice-S{\o}rensen Coefficient (DSC). On the NIH pancreas segmentation dataset, we outperform the previous best by an average of over 2%, and the worst case is improved by 7% to reach almost 70%, which indicates the reliability of our framework in clinical applications.

Convolutional networks (ConvNets) have achieved great successes in various challenging vision tasks. However, the performance of ConvNets would degrade when encountering the domain shift. The domain adaptation is more significant while challenging in the field of biomedical image analysis, where cross-modality data have largely different distributions. Given that annotating the medical data is especially expensive, the supervised transfer learning approaches are not quite optimal. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised domain adaptation framework with adversarial learning for cross-modality biomedical image segmentations. Specifically, our model is based on a dilated fully convolutional network for pixel-wise prediction. Moreover, we build a plug-and-play domain adaptation module (DAM) to map the target input to features which are aligned with source domain feature space. A domain critic module (DCM) is set up for discriminating the feature space of both domains. We optimize the DAM and DCM via an adversarial loss without using any target domain label. Our proposed method is validated by adapting a ConvNet trained with MRI images to unpaired CT data for cardiac structures segmentations, and achieved very promising results.
