While recent 3D-aware generative models have shown photo-realistic image synthesis with multi-view consistency, the synthesized image quality degrades depending on the camera pose (e.g., a face with a blurry and noisy boundary at a side viewpoint). Such degradation is mainly caused by the difficulty of learning both pose consistency and photo-realism simultaneously from a dataset with heavily imbalanced poses. In this paper, we propose SideGAN, a novel 3D GAN training method to generate photo-realistic images irrespective of the camera pose, especially for faces of side-view angles. To ease the challenging problem of learning photo-realistic and pose-consistent image synthesis, we split the problem into two subproblems, each of which can be solved more easily. Specifically, we formulate the problem as a combination of two simple discrimination problems, one of which learns to discriminate whether a synthesized image looks real or not, and the other learns to discriminate whether a synthesized image agrees with the camera pose. Based on this, we propose a dual-branched discriminator with two discrimination branches. We also propose a pose-matching loss to learn the pose consistency of 3D GANs. In addition, we present a pose sampling strategy to increase learning opportunities for steep angles in a pose-imbalanced dataset. With extensive validation, we demonstrate that our approach enables 3D GANs to generate high-quality geometries and photo-realistic images irrespective of the camera pose.

Large language models(LLMs) exhibit excellent performance across a variety of tasks, but they come with significant computational and storage costs. Quantizing these models is an effective way to alleviate this issue. However, existing methods struggle to strike a balance between model accuracy and hardware efficiency. This is where we introduce AWEQ, a post-training method that requires no additional training overhead. AWEQ excels in both ultra-low-bit quantization and 8-bit weight and activation (W8A8) quantization. There is an observation that weight quantization is less challenging than activation quantization. AWEQ transfers the difficulty of activation quantization to weights using channel equalization, achieving a balance between the quantization difficulties of both, and thereby maximizing performance. We have further refined the equalization method to mitigate quantization bias error, ensuring the robustness of the model. Extensive experiments on popular models such as LLaMA and OPT demonstrate that AWEQ outperforms all existing post-training quantization methods for large models.

Diffusion models have emerged as a prominent class of generative models, surpassing previous methods regarding sample quality and training stability. Recent works have shown the advantages of diffusion models in improving reinforcement learning (RL) solutions, including as trajectory planners, expressive policy classes, data synthesizers, etc. This survey aims to provide an overview of the advancements in this emerging field and hopes to inspire new avenues of research. First, we examine several challenges encountered by current RL algorithms. Then, we present a taxonomy of existing methods based on the roles played by diffusion models in RL and explore how the existing challenges are addressed. We further outline successful applications of diffusion models in various RL-related tasks while discussing the limitations of current approaches. Finally, we conclude the survey and offer insights into future research directions, focusing on enhancing model performance and applying diffusion models to broader tasks. Segment anything model (SAM) has achieved great success in the field of natural image segmentation. Nevertheless, SAM tends to consider shadows as background and therefore does not perform segmentation on them. In this paper, we propose ShadowSAM, a simple yet effective framework for fine-tuning SAM to detect shadows. Besides, by combining it with long short-term attention mechanism, we extend its capability for efficient video shadow detection. Specifically, we first fine-tune SAM on ViSha training dataset by utilizing the bounding boxes obtained from the ground truth shadow mask. Then during the inference stage, we simulate user interaction by providing bounding boxes to detect a specific frame (e.g., the first frame). Subsequently, using the detected shadow mask as a prior, we employ a long short-term network to learn spatial correlations between distant frames and temporal consistency between adjacent frames, thereby achieving precise shadow information propagation across video frames. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, with notable margin over the state-of-the-art approaches in terms of MAE and IoU metrics. Moreover, our method exhibits accelerated inference speed compared to previous video shadow detection approaches, validating the effectiveness and efficiency of our method. Leveraging the generative ability of image diffusion models offers great potential for zero-shot video-to-video translation. The key lies in how to maintain temporal consistency across generated video frames by image diffusion models. Previous methods typically adopt cross-frame attention, \emph{i.e.,} sharing the \textit{key} and \textit{value} tokens across attentions of different frames, to encourage the temporal consistency. However, in those works, temporal inconsistency issue may not be thoroughly solved, rendering the fidelity of generated videos limited.%The current state of the art cross-frame attention method aims at maintaining fine-grained visual details across frames, but it is still challenged by the temporal coherence problem. In this paper, we find the bottleneck lies in the unconstrained query tokens and propose a new zero-shot video-to-video translation framework, named \textit{LatentWarp}. Our approach is simple: to constrain the query tokens to be temporally consistent, we further incorporate a warping operation in the latent space to constrain the query tokens. Specifically, based on the optical flow obtained from the original video, we warp the generated latent features of last frame to align with the current frame during the denoising process. As a result, the corresponding regions across the adjacent frames can share closely-related query tokens and attention outputs, which can further improve latent-level consistency to enhance visual temporal coherence of generated videos. Extensive experiment results demonstrate the superiority of \textit{LatentWarp} in achieving video-to-video translation with temporal coherence.

Large-scale text-to-image diffusion models have been a ground-breaking development in generating convincing images following an input text prompt. The goal of image editing research is to give users control over the generated images by modifying the text prompt. Current image editing techniques are relying on DDIM inversion as a common practice based on the Latent Diffusion Models (LDM). However, the large pretrained T2I models working on the latent space as LDM suffer from losing details due to the first compression stage with an autoencoder mechanism. Instead, another mainstream T2I pipeline working on the pixel level, such as Imagen and DeepFloyd-IF, avoids this problem. They are commonly composed of several stages, normally with a text-to-image stage followed by several super-resolution stages. In this case, the DDIM inversion is unable to find the initial noise to generate the original image given that the super-resolution diffusion models are not compatible with the DDIM technique. According to our experimental findings, iteratively concatenating the noisy image as the condition is the root of this problem. Based on this observation, we develop an iterative inversion (IterInv) technique for this stream of T2I models and verify IterInv with the open-source DeepFloyd-IF model. By combining our method IterInv with a popular image editing method, we prove the application prospects of IterInv. The code will be released at \url{//github.com/Tchuanm/IterInv.git}.

Thanks to the outstanding achievements from state-of-the-art generative models like ChatGPT and diffusion models, generative AI has gained substantial attention across various industrial and academic domains. In this paper, denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) are proposed for a practical finite-precision wireless communication system with hardware-impaired transceivers. The intuition behind DDPM is to decompose the data generation process over the so-called "denoising" steps. Inspired by this, a DDPM-based receiver is proposed for a practical wireless communication scheme that faces realistic non-idealities, including hardware impairments (HWI), channel distortions, and quantization errors. It is shown that our approach provides network resilience under low-SNR regimes, near-invariant reconstruction performance with respect to different HWI levels and quantization errors, and robust out-of-distribution performance against non-Gaussian noise. Moreover, the reconstruction performance of our scheme is evaluated in terms of cosine similarity and mean-squared error (MSE), highlighting more than 25 dB improvement compared to the conventional deep neural network (DNN)-based receivers.

Diffusion models (DMs) have shown great potential for high-quality image synthesis. However, when it comes to producing images with complex scenes, how to properly describe both image global structures and object details remains a challenging task. In this paper, we present Frido, a Feature Pyramid Diffusion model performing a multi-scale coarse-to-fine denoising process for image synthesis. Our model decomposes an input image into scale-dependent vector quantized features, followed by a coarse-to-fine gating for producing image output. During the above multi-scale representation learning stage, additional input conditions like text, scene graph, or image layout can be further exploited. Thus, Frido can be also applied for conditional or cross-modality image synthesis. We conduct extensive experiments over various unconditioned and conditional image generation tasks, ranging from text-to-image synthesis, layout-to-image, scene-graph-to-image, to label-to-image. More specifically, we achieved state-of-the-art FID scores on five benchmarks, namely layout-to-image on COCO and OpenImages, scene-graph-to-image on COCO and Visual Genome, and label-to-image on COCO. Existing knowledge graph (KG) embedding models have primarily focused on static KGs. However, real-world KGs do not remain static, but rather evolve and grow in tandem with the development of KG applications. Consequently, new facts and previously unseen entities and relations continually emerge, necessitating an embedding model that can quickly learn and transfer new knowledge through growth. Motivated by this, we delve into an expanding field of KG embedding in this paper, i.e., lifelong KG embedding. We consider knowledge transfer and retention of the learning on growing snapshots of a KG without having to learn embeddings from scratch. The proposed model includes a masked KG autoencoder for embedding learning and update, with an embedding transfer strategy to inject the learned knowledge into the new entity and relation embeddings, and an embedding regularization method to avoid catastrophic forgetting. To investigate the impacts of different aspects of KG growth, we construct four datasets to evaluate the performance of lifelong KG embedding. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art inductive and lifelong embedding baselines.

With the rise of powerful pre-trained vision-language models like CLIP, it becomes essential to investigate ways to adapt these models to downstream datasets. A recently proposed method named Context Optimization (CoOp) introduces the concept of prompt learning -- a recent trend in NLP -- to the vision domain for adapting pre-trained vision-language models. Specifically, CoOp turns context words in a prompt into a set of learnable vectors and, with only a few labeled images for learning, can achieve huge improvements over intensively-tuned manual prompts. In our study we identify a critical problem of CoOp: the learned context is not generalizable to wider unseen classes within the same dataset, suggesting that CoOp overfits base classes observed during training. To address the problem, we propose Conditional Context Optimization (CoCoOp), which extends CoOp by further learning a lightweight neural network to generate for each image an input-conditional token (vector). Compared to CoOp's static prompts, our dynamic prompts adapt to each instance and are thus less sensitive to class shift. Extensive experiments show that CoCoOp generalizes much better than CoOp to unseen classes, even showing promising transferability beyond a single dataset; and yields stronger domain generalization performance as well. Recent advancements in deep neural networks for graph-structured data have led to state-of-the-art performance on recommender system benchmarks. However, making these methods practical and scalable to web-scale recommendation tasks with billions of items and hundreds of millions of users remains a challenge. Here we describe a large-scale deep recommendation engine that we developed and deployed at Pinterest. We develop a data-efficient Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) algorithm PinSage, which combines efficient random walks and graph convolutions to generate embeddings of nodes (i.e., items) that incorporate both graph structure as well as node feature information. Compared to prior GCN approaches, we develop a novel method based on highly efficient random walks to structure the convolutions and design a novel training strategy that relies on harder-and-harder training examples to improve robustness and convergence of the model. We also develop an efficient MapReduce model inference algorithm to generate embeddings using a trained model. We deploy PinSage at Pinterest and train it on 7.5 billion examples on a graph with 3 billion nodes representing pins and boards, and 18 billion edges. According to offline metrics, user studies and A/B tests, PinSage generates higher-quality recommendations than comparable deep learning and graph-based alternatives. To our knowledge, this is the largest application of deep graph embeddings to date and paves the way for a new generation of web-scale recommender systems based on graph convolutional architectures.
