In this paper we introduce a novel algorithm called Iterative Section Reduction (ISR) to automatically identify sub-intervals of spatiotemporal time series that are predictive of a target classification task. Specifically, using data collected from a driving simulator study, we identify which spatial regions (dubbed "sections") along the simulated routes tend to manifest driving behaviors that are predictive of the presence of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Identifying these sections is important for two main reasons: (1) to improve predictive accuracy of the trained models by filtering out non-predictive time series sub-intervals, and (2) to gain insights into which on-road scenarios (dubbed events) elicit distinctly different driving behaviors from patients undergoing treatment for ADHD versus those that are not. Our experimental results show both improved performance over prior efforts (+10% accuracy) and good alignment between the predictive sections identified and scripted on-road events in the simulator (negotiating turns and curves).

Financial time-series forecasting is one of the most challenging domains in the field of time-series analysis. This is mostly due to the highly non-stationary and noisy nature of financial time-series data. With progressive efforts of the community to design specialized neural networks incorporating prior domain knowledge, many financial analysis and forecasting problems have been successfully tackled. The temporal attention mechanism is a neural layer design that recently gained popularity due to its ability to focus on important temporal events. In this paper, we propose a neural layer based on the ideas of temporal attention and multi-head attention to extend the capability of the underlying neural network in focusing simultaneously on multiple temporal instances. The effectiveness of our approach is validated using large-scale limit-order book market data to forecast the direction of mid-price movements. Our experiments show that the use of multi-head temporal attention modules leads to enhanced prediction performances compared to baseline models.

Stock prices move as piece-wise trending fluctuation rather than a purely random walk. Traditionally, the prediction of future stock movements is based on the historical trading record. Nowadays, with the development of social media, many active participants in the market choose to publicize their strategies, which provides a window to glimpse over the whole market's attitude towards future movements by extracting the semantics behind social media. However, social media contains conflicting information and cannot replace historical records completely. In this work, we propose a multi-modality attention network to reduce conflicts and integrate semantic and numeric features to predict future stock movements comprehensively. Specifically, we first extract semantic information from social media and estimate their credibility based on posters' identity and public reputation. Then we incorporate the semantic from online posts and numeric features from historical records to make the trading strategy. Experimental results show that our approach outperforms previous methods by a significant margin in both prediction accuracy (61.20\%) and trading profits (9.13\%). It demonstrates that our method improves the performance of stock movements prediction and informs future research on multi-modality fusion towards stock prediction.

Machine learning is increasingly used in the most diverse applications and domains, whether in healthcare, to predict pathologies, or in the financial sector to detect fraud. One of the linchpins for efficiency and accuracy in machine learning is data utility. However, when it contains personal information, full access may be restricted due to laws and regulations aiming to protect individuals' privacy. Therefore, data owners must ensure that any data shared guarantees such privacy. Removal or transformation of private information (de-identification) are among the most common techniques. Intuitively, one can anticipate that reducing detail or distorting information would result in losses for model predictive performance. However, previous work concerning classification tasks using de-identified data generally demonstrates that predictive performance can be preserved in specific applications. In this paper, we aim to evaluate the existence of a trade-off between data privacy and predictive performance in classification tasks. We leverage a large set of privacy-preserving techniques and learning algorithms to provide an assessment of re-identification ability and the impact of transformed variants on predictive performance. Unlike previous literature, we confirm that the higher the level of privacy (lower re-identification risk), the higher the impact on predictive performance, pointing towards clear evidence of a trade-off.

We propose a tool, called FuzzingDriver, to generate dictionary tokens for coverage-based greybox fuzzers (CGF) from the codebase of any target program. FuzzingDriver does not add any overhead to the fuzzing job as it is run beforehand. We compared FuzzingDriver to Google dictionaries by fuzzing six open-source targets, and we found that FuzzingDriver consistently achieves higher code coverage in all tests. We also executed eight benchmarks on FuzzBench to demonstrate how utilizing FuzzingDriver's dictionaries can outperform six widely-used CGF fuzzers. In this paper, a human-like driving framework is designed for autonomous vehicles (AVs), which aims to make AVs better integrate into the transportation ecology of human driving and eliminate the misunderstanding and incompatibility of human drivers to autonomous driving. Based on the analysis of the real world INTERACTION dataset, a driving aggressiveness estimation model is established with the fuzzy inference approach. Then, a human-like driving model, which integrates the brain emotional learning circuit model (BELCM) with the two-point preview model, is designed. In the human-like lane-change decision-making algorithm, the cost function is designed comprehensively considering driving safety and travel efficiency. Based on the cost function and multi-constraint, the dynamic game algorithm is applied to modelling the interaction and decision making between AV and human driver. Additionally, to guarantee the lane-change safety of AVs, an artificial potential field model is built for collision risk assessment. Finally, the proposed algorithm is evaluated through human-in-the-loop experiments on a driving simulator, and the results demonstrated the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Imitation learning enables agents to reuse and adapt the hard-won expertise of others, offering a solution to several key challenges in learning behavior. Although it is easy to observe behavior in the real-world, the underlying actions may not be accessible. We present a new method for imitation solely from observations that achieves comparable performance to experts on challenging continuous control tasks while also exhibiting robustness in the presence of observations unrelated to the task. Our method, which we call FORM (for "Future Observation Reward Model") is derived from an inverse RL objective and imitates using a model of expert behavior learned by generative modelling of the expert's observations, without needing ground truth actions. We show that FORM performs comparably to a strong baseline IRL method (GAIL) on the DeepMind Control Suite benchmark, while outperforming GAIL in the presence of task-irrelevant features.

The task of Knowledge Graph Completion (KGC) aims to automatically infer the missing fact information in Knowledge Graph (KG). In this paper, we take a new perspective that aims to leverage rich user-item interaction data (user interaction data for short) for improving the KGC task. Our work is inspired by the observation that many KG entities correspond to online items in application systems. However, the two kinds of data sources have very different intrinsic characteristics, and it is likely to hurt the original performance using simple fusion strategy. To address this challenge, we propose a novel adversarial learning approach by leveraging user interaction data for the KGC task. Our generator is isolated from user interaction data, and serves to improve the performance of the discriminator. The discriminator takes the learned useful information from user interaction data as input, and gradually enhances the evaluation capacity in order to identify the fake samples generated by the generator. To discover implicit entity preference of users, we design an elaborate collaborative learning algorithms based on graph neural networks, which will be jointly optimized with the discriminator. Such an approach is effective to alleviate the issues about data heterogeneity and semantic complexity for the KGC task. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets have demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach on the KGC task.

When we humans look at a video of human-object interaction, we can not only infer what is happening but we can even extract actionable information and imitate those interactions. On the other hand, current recognition or geometric approaches lack the physicality of action representation. In this paper, we take a step towards a more physical understanding of actions. We address the problem of inferring contact points and the physical forces from videos of humans interacting with objects. One of the main challenges in tackling this problem is obtaining ground-truth labels for forces. We sidestep this problem by instead using a physics simulator for supervision. Specifically, we use a simulator to predict effects and enforce that estimated forces must lead to the same effect as depicted in the video. Our quantitative and qualitative results show that (a) we can predict meaningful forces from videos whose effects lead to accurate imitation of the motions observed, (b) by jointly optimizing for contact point and force prediction, we can improve the performance on both tasks in comparison to independent training, and (c) we can learn a representation from this model that generalizes to novel objects using few shot examples.

Fine-grained entity typing is a challenging problem since it usually involves a relatively large tag set and may require to understand the context of the entity mention. In this paper, we use entity linking to help with the fine-grained entity type classification process. We propose a deep neural model that makes predictions based on both the context and the information obtained from entity linking results. Experimental results on two commonly used datasets demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach. On both datasets, it achieves more than 5\% absolute strict accuracy improvement over the state of the art.

The Residual Networks of Residual Networks (RoR) exhibits excellent performance in the image classification task, but sharply increasing the number of feature map channels makes the characteristic information transmission incoherent, which losses a certain of information related to classification prediction, limiting the classification performance. In this paper, a Pyramidal RoR network model is proposed by analysing the performance characteristics of RoR and combining with the PyramidNet. Firstly, based on RoR, the Pyramidal RoR network model with channels gradually increasing is designed. Secondly, we analysed the effect of different residual block structures on performance, and chosen the residual block structure which best favoured the classification performance. Finally, we add an important principle to further optimize Pyramidal RoR networks, drop-path is used to avoid over-fitting and save training time. In this paper, image classification experiments were performed on CIFAR-10/100 and SVHN datasets, and we achieved the current lowest classification error rates were 2.96%, 16.40% and 1.59%, respectively. Experiments show that the Pyramidal RoR network optimization method can improve the network performance for different data sets and effectively suppress the gradient disappearance problem in DCNN training.
