In this paper, we propose a novel formation controller for nonholonomic agents to form general parametric curves. First, we derive a unified parametric representation for both open and closed curves. Then, a leader-follower formation controller is designed to form the parametric curves. We consider directed communications and constant input disturbances rejection in the controller design. Rigorous Lyapunov-based stability analysis proves the asymptotic stability of the proposed controller. Detailed numerical simulations and experimental studies are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method.

In this paper, we propose a method to extract physically-based rendering (PBR) materials from a single real-world image. We do so in two steps: first, we map regions of the image to material concepts using a diffusion model, which allows the sampling of texture images resembling each material in the scene. Second, we benefit from a separate network to decompose the generated textures into Spatially Varying BRDFs (SVBRDFs), providing us with materials ready to be used in rendering applications. Our approach builds on existing synthetic material libraries with SVBRDF ground truth, but also exploits a diffusion-generated RGB texture dataset to allow generalization to new samples using unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA). Our contributions are thoroughly evaluated on synthetic and real-world datasets. We further demonstrate the applicability of our method for editing 3D scenes with materials estimated from real photographs. The code and models will be made open-source. In this paper, we propose a progressive learning paradigm for transformer-based variable-rate image compression. Our approach covers a wide range of compression rates with the assistance of the Layer-adaptive Prompt Module (LPM). Inspired by visual prompt tuning, we use LPM to extract prompts for input images and hidden features at the encoder side and decoder side, respectively, which are fed as additional information into the Swin Transformer layer of a pre-trained transformer-based image compression model to affect the allocation of attention region and the bits, which in turn changes the target compression ratio of the model. To ensure the network is more lightweight, we involves the integration of prompt networks with less convolutional layers. Exhaustive experiments show that compared to methods based on multiple models, which are optimized separately for different target rates, the proposed method arrives at the same performance with 80% savings in parameter storage and 90% savings in datasets. Meanwhile, our model outperforms all current variable bitrate image methods in terms of rate-distortion performance and approaches the state-of-the-art fixed bitrate image compression methods trained from scratch.

Product reviews often contain a large number of implicit aspects and object-attribute co-existence cases. Unfortunately, many existing studies in Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis (ABSA) have overlooked this issue, which can make it difficult to extract opinions comprehensively and fairly. In this paper, we propose a new task called Entity-Aspect-Opinion-Sentiment Quadruple Extraction (EASQE), which aims to hierarchically decompose aspect terms into entities and aspects to avoid information loss, non-exclusive annotations, and opinion misunderstandings in ABSA tasks. To facilitate research in this new task, we have constructed four datasets (Res14-EASQE, Res15-EASQE, Res16-EASQE, and Lap14-EASQE) based on the SemEval Restaurant and Laptop datasets. We have also proposed a novel two-stage sequence-tagging based Trigger-Opinion framework as the baseline for the EASQE task. Empirical evaluations show that our Trigger-Opinion framework can generate satisfactory EASQE results and can also be applied to other ABSA tasks, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art methods. We have made the four datasets and source code of Trigger-Opinion publicly available to facilitate further research in this area.

In this paper, we address the problem of video super-resolution (VSR) using Diffusion Models (DM), and present StableVSR. Our method significantly enhances the perceptual quality of upscaled videos by synthesizing realistic and temporally-consistent details. We turn a pre-trained DM for single image super-resolution into a VSR method by introducing the Temporal Conditioning Module (TCM). TCM uses Temporal Texture Guidance, which provides spatially-aligned and detail-rich texture information synthesized in adjacent frames. This guides the generative process of the current frame toward high-quality and temporally-consistent results. We introduce a Frame-wise Bidirectional Sampling strategy to encourage the use of information from past to future and vice-versa. This strategy improves the perceptual quality of the results and the temporal consistency across frames. We demonstrate the effectiveness of StableVSR in enhancing the perceptual quality of upscaled videos compared to existing state-of-the-art methods for VSR. The code is available at //github.com/claudiom4sir/StableVSR.

In this paper, we develop a high-precision satellite orbit determination model for satellites orbiting the Earth. Solving this model entails numerically integrating the differential equation of motion governing a two-body system, employing Fehlberg's formulation and the Runge-Kutta class of embedded integrators with adaptive stepsize control. Relevant primary perturbing forces included in this mathematical model are the full force gravitational field model, Earth's atmospheric drag, third body gravitational effects and solar radiation pressure. Development of the high-precision model required accounting for the perturbing influences of Earth radiation pressure, Earth tides and relativistic effects. The model is then implemented to obtain a high-fidelity Earth orbiting satellite propagator, namely the Satellite Ephemeris Determiner (SED), which is comparable to the popular High Precision Orbit Propagator (HPOP). The architecture of SED, the methodology employed, and the numerical results obtained are presented.

With the rapid growth of research in trojaning deep neural models of source code, we observe that there is a need of developing a benchmark trojaned models for testing various trojan detection and unlearning techniques. In this work, we aim to provide the scientific community with a diverse pool of trojaned code models using which they can experiment with such techniques. We present \textsc{TrojanedCM}, a publicly available repository of clean and poisoned models of source code. We provide poisoned models for two code classification tasks (defect detection and clone detection) and a code generation task (text-to-code generation). We finetuned popular pretrained code models such as CodeBERT, PLBART, CodeT5, CodeT5+, on poisoned datasets that we generated from benchmark datasets (Devign, BigCloneBench, CONCODE) for the above mentioned tasks. The repository also provides full access to the architecture and weights of the models, allowing practitioners to investigate different white-box analysis techniques. In addition to the poisoned models, we also provide a poisoning framework using which practitioners can deploy various poisoning strategies for the different tasks and models of source code. All the material are accessible via this link: //github.com/UH-SERG/TrojanedCM.

In this paper, we aim to create weak alignment supervision to aid the end-to-end modeling. Towards this end, we use the existing hybrid ASR system to produce triphone alignments of the training audios. We then create a cross-entropy loss at a certain layer of the encoder using the derived alignments. In contrast to the general one-hot cross-entropy losses with or without loss weighting, here we use a cross-entropy loss with a label smoothing parameter to regularize the supervision. As a comparison, we also conduct the experiments with one-hot cross-entropy losses and CTC losses with loss weighting. The results show that placing the weak alignment supervision with the label smoothing parameter of 0.5 at the third encoder layer outperforms the other two approaches and leads to about 5% relative WER reduction on the TED-LIUM 2 dataset over the baseline. We see similar improvements when applying the method out-of-the-box on a Tagalog end-to-end ASR system.

The Lorenz curve portrays the inequality of income distribution. In this article, we develop three modified empirical likelihood (EL) approaches including adjusted empirical likelihood, transformed empirical likelihood, and transformed adjusted empirical likelihood to construct confidence intervals for the generalized Lorenz ordinate. We have shown that the limiting distribution of the modified EL ratio statistics for the generalized Lorenz ordinate follows the scaled Chi-Squared distributions with one degree of freedom. The coverage probabilities and mean lengths of confidence intervals are compared of the proposed methods with the traditional EL method through simulations under various scenarios. Finally, the proposed methods are illustrated using a real data application to construct confidence intervals.

In this paper, we analyze the regret incurred by a computationally efficient exploration strategy, known as naive exploration, for controlling unknown partially observable systems within the Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) framework. We introduce a two-phase control algorithm called LQG-NAIVE, which involves an initial phase of injecting Gaussian input signals to obtain a system model, followed by a second phase of an interplay between naive exploration and control in an episodic fashion. We show that LQG-NAIVE achieves a regret growth rate of $\tilde{\mathcal{O}}(\sqrt{T})$, i.e., $\mathcal{O}(\sqrt{T})$ up to logarithmic factors after $T$ time steps, and we validate its performance through numerical simulations. Additionally, we propose LQG-IF2E, which extends the exploration signal to a `closed-loop' setting by incorporating the Fisher Information Matrix (FIM). We provide compelling numerical evidence of the competitive performance of LQG-IF2E compared to LQG-NAIVE.

In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive analysis of gender stereotypes in the character design of Honor of Kings, a popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game in China. We probe gender stereotypes through the lens of role assignments, visual designs, spoken lines, and background stories, combining qualitative analysis and text mining based on the moral foundation theory. Male heroes are commonly designed as masculine fighters with power and female heroes as feminine "ornaments" with ideal looks. We contribute with a culture-aware and multi-modal understanding of gender stereotypes in games, leveraging text-, visual-, and role-based evidence.
