In recent years, the increasing prevalence and intensity of wildfires have posed significant challenges to emergency response teams. The utilization of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, has shown promise in aiding wildfire management efforts. This work focuses on the development of an optimal wildfire escape route planning system specifically designed for drones, considering dynamic fire and smoke models. First, the location of the source of the wildfire can be well located by information fusion between UAV and satellite, and the road conditions in the vicinity of the fire can be assessed and analyzed using multi-channel remote sensing data. Second, the road network can be extracted and segmented in real time using UAV vision technology, and each road in the road network map can be given priority based on the results of road condition classification. Third, the spread model of dynamic fires calculates the new location of the fire source based on the fire intensity, wind speed and direction, and the radius increases as the wildfire spreads. Smoke is generated around the fire source to create a visual representation of a burning fire. Finally, based on the improved A* algorithm, which considers all the above factors, the UAV can quickly plan an escape route based on the starting and destination locations that avoid the location of the fire source and the area where it is spreading. By considering dynamic fire and smoke models, the proposed system enhances the safety and efficiency of drone operations in wildfire environments.

Long patch validation time is a limiting factor for automated program repair (APR). Though the duality between patch validation and mutation testing is recognized, so far there exists no study of systematically adapting mutation testing techniques to general-purpose patch validation. To address this gap, we investigate existing mutation testing techniques and identify five classes of acceleration techniques that are suitable for general-purpose patch validation. Among them, mutant schemata and mutant deduplication have not been adapted to general-purpose patch validation due to the arbitrary changes that third-party APR approaches may introduce. This presents two problems for adaption: 1) the difficulty of implementing the static equivalence analysis required by the state-of-the-art mutant deduplication approach; 2) the difficulty of capturing the changes of patches to the system state at runtime. To overcome these problems, we propose two novel approaches: 1) execution scheduling, which detects the equivalence between patches online, avoiding the static equivalence analysis and its imprecision; 2) interception-based instrumentation, which intercepts the changes of patches to the system state, avoiding a full interpreter and its overhead. Based on the contributions above, we implement ExpressAPR, a general-purpose patch validator for Java that integrates all recognized classes of techniques suitable for patch validation. Our large-scale evaluation with four APR approaches shows that ExpressAPR accelerates patch validation by 137.1x over plainvalidation or 8.8x over the state-of-the-art approach, making patch validation no longer the time bottleneck of APR. Patch validation time for a single bug can be reduced to within a few minutes on mainstream CPUs.

Recent advancements in neural compression have surpassed traditional codecs in PSNR and MS-SSIM measurements. However, at low bit-rates, these methods can introduce visually displeasing artifacts, such as blurring, color shifting, and texture loss, thereby compromising perceptual quality of images. To address these issues, this study presents an enhanced neural compression method designed for optimal visual fidelity. We have trained our model with a sophisticated semantic ensemble loss, integrating Charbonnier loss, perceptual loss, style loss, and a non-binary adversarial loss, to enhance the perceptual quality of image reconstructions. Additionally, we have implemented a latent refinement process to generate content-aware latent codes. These codes adhere to bit-rate constraints, balance the trade-off between distortion and fidelity, and prioritize bit allocation to regions of greater importance. Our empirical findings demonstrate that this approach significantly improves the statistical fidelity of neural image compression. On CLIC2024 validation set, our approach achieves a 62% bitrate saving compared to MS-ILLM under FID metric.

Collaborative perception aims to mitigate the limitations of single-agent perception, such as occlusions, by facilitating data exchange among multiple agents. However, most current works consider a homogeneous scenario where all agents use identity sensors and perception models. In reality, heterogeneous agent types may continually emerge and inevitably face a domain gap when collaborating with existing agents. In this paper, we introduce a new open heterogeneous problem: how to accommodate continually emerging new heterogeneous agent types into collaborative perception, while ensuring high perception performance and low integration cost? To address this problem, we propose HEterogeneous ALliance (HEAL), a novel extensible collaborative perception framework. HEAL first establishes a unified feature space with initial agents via a novel multi-scale foreground-aware Pyramid Fusion network. When heterogeneous new agents emerge with previously unseen modalities or models, we align them to the established unified space with an innovative backward alignment. This step only involves individual training on the new agent type, thus presenting extremely low training costs and high extensibility. It also protects new agents' model details from disclosure since the training can be conducted by the agent owner locally. To enrich agents' data heterogeneity, we bring OPV2V-H, a new large-scale dataset with more diverse sensor types. Extensive experiments on OPV2V-H and DAIR-V2X datasets show that HEAL surpasses SOTA methods in performance while reducing the training parameters by 91.5% when integrating 3 new agent types. The ever-increasing demand for data services and the proliferation of user equipment (UE) have resulted in a significant rise in the volume of mobile traffic. Moreover, in multi-band networks, non-uniform traffic distribution among different operational bands can lead to congestion, which can adversely impact the user's quality of experience. Load balancing is a critical aspect of network optimization, where it ensures that the traffic is evenly distributed among different bands, avoiding congestion and ensuring better user experience. Traditional load balancing approaches rely only on the band channel quality as a load indicator and to move UEs between bands, which disregards the UE's demands and the band resource, and hence, leading to a suboptimal balancing and utilization of resources. To address this challenge, we propose an event-based algorithm, in which we model the load balancing problem as a multi-objective stochastic optimization, and assign UEs to bands in a probabilistic manner. The goal is to evenly distribute traffic across available bands according to their resources, while maintaining minimal number of inter-frequency handovers to avoid the signaling overhead and the interruption time. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm enhances the network's performance and outperforms traditional load balancing approaches in terms of throughput and interruption time.

Convolutional neural networks have shown to be widely applicable to a large number of fields when large amounts of labelled data are available. The recent trend has been to use models with increasingly larger sets of tunable parameters to increase model accuracy, reduce model loss, or create more adversarially robust models -- goals that are often at odds with one another. In particular, recent theoretical work raises questions about the ability for even larger models to generalize to data outside of the controlled train and test sets. As such, we examine the role of the number of hidden layers in the ResNet model, demonstrated on the MNIST, CIFAR10, CIFAR100 datasets. We test a variety of parameters including the size of the model, the floating point precision, and the noise level of both the training data and the model output. To encapsulate the model's predictive power and computational cost, we provide a method that uses induced failures to model the probability of failure as a function of time and relate that to a novel metric that allows us to quickly determine whether or not the cost of training a model outweighs the cost of attacking it. Using this approach, we are able to approximate the expected failure rate using a small number of specially crafted samples rather than increasingly larger benchmark datasets. We demonstrate the efficacy of this technique on both the MNIST and CIFAR10 datasets using 8-, 16-, 32-, and 64-bit floating-point numbers, various data pre-processing techniques, and several attacks on five configurations of the ResNet model. Then, using empirical measurements, we examine the various trade-offs between cost, robustness, latency, and reliability to find that larger models do not significantly aid in adversarial robustness despite costing significantly more to train.

Face recognition technology has advanced significantly in recent years due largely to the availability of large and increasingly complex training datasets for use in deep learning models. These datasets, however, typically comprise images scraped from news sites or social media platforms and, therefore, have limited utility in more advanced security, forensics, and military applications. These applications require lower resolution, longer ranges, and elevated viewpoints. To meet these critical needs, we collected and curated the first and second subsets of a large multi-modal biometric dataset designed for use in the research and development (R&D) of biometric recognition technologies under extremely challenging conditions. Thus far, the dataset includes more than 350,000 still images and over 1,300 hours of video footage of approximately 1,000 subjects. To collect this data, we used Nikon DSLR cameras, a variety of commercial surveillance cameras, specialized long-rage R&D cameras, and Group 1 and Group 2 UAV platforms. The goal is to support the development of algorithms capable of accurately recognizing people at ranges up to 1,000 m and from high angles of elevation. These advances will include improvements to the state of the art in face recognition and will support new research in the area of whole-body recognition using methods based on gait and anthropometry. This paper describes methods used to collect and curate the dataset, and the dataset's characteristics at the current stage.

Graphs are important data representations for describing objects and their relationships, which appear in a wide diversity of real-world scenarios. As one of a critical problem in this area, graph generation considers learning the distributions of given graphs and generating more novel graphs. Owing to their wide range of applications, generative models for graphs, which have a rich history, however, are traditionally hand-crafted and only capable of modeling a few statistical properties of graphs. Recent advances in deep generative models for graph generation is an important step towards improving the fidelity of generated graphs and paves the way for new kinds of applications. This article provides an extensive overview of the literature in the field of deep generative models for graph generation. Firstly, the formal definition of deep generative models for the graph generation and the preliminary knowledge are provided. Secondly, taxonomies of deep generative models for both unconditional and conditional graph generation are proposed respectively; the existing works of each are compared and analyzed. After that, an overview of the evaluation metrics in this specific domain is provided. Finally, the applications that deep graph generation enables are summarized and five promising future research directions are highlighted.

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have recently become increasingly popular due to their ability to learn complex systems of relations or interactions arising in a broad spectrum of problems ranging from biology and particle physics to social networks and recommendation systems. Despite the plethora of different models for deep learning on graphs, few approaches have been proposed thus far for dealing with graphs that present some sort of dynamic nature (e.g. evolving features or connectivity over time). In this paper, we present Temporal Graph Networks (TGNs), a generic, efficient framework for deep learning on dynamic graphs represented as sequences of timed events. Thanks to a novel combination of memory modules and graph-based operators, TGNs are able to significantly outperform previous approaches being at the same time more computationally efficient. We furthermore show that several previous models for learning on dynamic graphs can be cast as specific instances of our framework. We perform a detailed ablation study of different components of our framework and devise the best configuration that achieves state-of-the-art performance on several transductive and inductive prediction tasks for dynamic graphs.

Ensembles over neural network weights trained from different random initialization, known as deep ensembles, achieve state-of-the-art accuracy and calibration. The recently introduced batch ensembles provide a drop-in replacement that is more parameter efficient. In this paper, we design ensembles not only over weights, but over hyperparameters to improve the state of the art in both settings. For best performance independent of budget, we propose hyper-deep ensembles, a simple procedure that involves a random search over different hyperparameters, themselves stratified across multiple random initializations. Its strong performance highlights the benefit of combining models with both weight and hyperparameter diversity. We further propose a parameter efficient version, hyper-batch ensembles, which builds on the layer structure of batch ensembles and self-tuning networks. The computational and memory costs of our method are notably lower than typical ensembles. On image classification tasks, with MLP, LeNet, and Wide ResNet 28-10 architectures, our methodology improves upon both deep and batch ensembles.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) are successful in many computer vision tasks. However, the most accurate DNNs require millions of parameters and operations, making them energy, computation and memory intensive. This impedes the deployment of large DNNs in low-power devices with limited compute resources. Recent research improves DNN models by reducing the memory requirement, energy consumption, and number of operations without significantly decreasing the accuracy. This paper surveys the progress of low-power deep learning and computer vision, specifically in regards to inference, and discusses the methods for compacting and accelerating DNN models. The techniques can be divided into four major categories: (1) parameter quantization and pruning, (2) compressed convolutional filters and matrix factorization, (3) network architecture search, and (4) knowledge distillation. We analyze the accuracy, advantages, disadvantages, and potential solutions to the problems with the techniques in each category. We also discuss new evaluation metrics as a guideline for future research.
