Recent progress in single-image 3D generation highlights the importance of multi-view coherency, leveraging 3D priors from large-scale diffusion models pretrained on Internet-scale images. However, the aspect of novel-view diversity remains underexplored within the research landscape due to the ambiguity in converting a 2D image into 3D content, where numerous potential shapes can emerge. Here, we aim to address this research gap by simultaneously addressing both consistency and diversity. Yet, striking a balance between these two aspects poses a considerable challenge due to their inherent trade-offs. This work introduces HarmonyView, a simple yet effective diffusion sampling technique adept at decomposing two intricate aspects in single-image 3D generation: consistency and diversity. This approach paves the way for a more nuanced exploration of the two critical dimensions within the sampling process. Moreover, we propose a new evaluation metric based on CLIP image and text encoders to comprehensively assess the diversity of the generated views, which closely aligns with human evaluators' judgments. In experiments, HarmonyView achieves a harmonious balance, demonstrating a win-win scenario in both consistency and diversity.

The advancement of generative AI has given rise to pressing copyright challenges, particularly in music industry. This paper focuses on the economic aspects of these challenges, emphasizing that the economic impact constitutes a central issue in the copyright arena. The complexity of the black-box generative AI technologies not only suggests but necessitates algorithmic solutions. However, such solutions have been largely missing, leading to regulatory challenges in this landscape. We aim to bridge the gap in current approaches by proposing potential royalty models for revenue sharing on AI music generation platforms. Our methodology involves a detailed analysis of existing royalty models in platforms like Spotify and YouTube, and adapting these to the unique context of AI-generated music. A significant challenge we address is the attribution of AI-generated music to influential copyrighted content in the training data. To this end, we present algorithmic solutions employing data attribution techniques. Our experimental results verify the effectiveness of these solutions. This research represents a pioneering effort in integrating technical advancements with economic and legal considerations in the field of generative AI, offering a computational copyright solution for the challenges posed by the opaque nature of AI technologies.

Training Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) with small batches using Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) yields superior test performance compared to larger batches. The specific noise structure inherent to SGD is known to be responsible for this implicit bias. DP-SGD, used to ensure differential privacy (DP) in DNNs' training, adds Gaussian noise to the clipped gradients. Surprisingly, large-batch training still results in a significant decrease in performance, which poses an important challenge because strong DP guarantees necessitate the use of massive batches. We first show that the phenomenon extends to Noisy-SGD (DP-SGD without clipping), suggesting that the stochasticity (and not the clipping) is the cause of this implicit bias, even with additional isotropic Gaussian noise. We theoretically analyse the solutions obtained with continuous versions of Noisy-SGD for the Linear Least Square and Diagonal Linear Network settings, and reveal that the implicit bias is indeed amplified by the additional noise. Thus, the performance issues of large-batch DP-SGD training are rooted in the same underlying principles as SGD, offering hope for potential improvements in large batch training strategies.

Traditional Time Delay Neural Networks (TDNN) have achieved state-of-the-art performance at the cost of high computational complexity and slower inference speed, making them difficult to implement in an industrial environment. The Densely Connected Time Delay Neural Network (D-TDNN) with Context Aware Masking (CAM) module has proven to be an efficient structure to reduce complexity while maintaining system performance. In this paper, we propose a fast and lightweight model, LightCAM, which further adopts a depthwise separable convolution module (DSM) and uses multi-scale feature aggregation (MFA) for feature fusion at different levels. Extensive experiments are conducted on VoxCeleb dataset, the comparative results show that it has achieved an EER of 0.83 and MinDCF of 0.0891 in VoxCeleb1-O, which outperforms the other mainstream speaker verification methods. In addition, complexity analysis further demonstrates that the proposed architecture has lower computational cost and faster inference speed.

This paper presents a method to learn hand-object interaction prior for reconstructing a 3D hand-object scene from a single RGB image. The inference as well as training-data generation for 3D hand-object scene reconstruction is challenging due to the depth ambiguity of a single image and occlusions by the hand and object. We turn this challenge into an opportunity by utilizing the hand shape to constrain the possible relative configuration of the hand and object geometry. We design a generalizable implicit function, HandNeRF, that explicitly encodes the correlation of the 3D hand shape features and 2D object features to predict the hand and object scene geometry. With experiments on real-world datasets, we show that HandNeRF is able to reconstruct hand-object scenes of novel grasp configurations more accurately than comparable methods. Moreover, we demonstrate that object reconstruction from HandNeRF ensures more accurate execution of downstream tasks, such as grasping and motion planning for robotic hand-over and manipulation. Recent advancement in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) has produced large AI models, which become impractical for deployment in mobile devices. Model quantization is effective to produce compressed general-purpose models, however such models may only be deployed to a restricted sub-domain of interest. We show that ASR models can be personalized during quantization while relying on just a small set of unlabelled samples from the target domain. To this end, we propose myQASR, a mixed-precision quantization method that generates tailored quantization schemes for diverse users under any memory requirement with no fine-tuning. myQASR automatically evaluates the quantization sensitivity of network layers by analysing the full-precision activation values. We are then able to generate a personalised mixed-precision quantization scheme for any pre-determined memory budget. Results for large-scale ASR models show how myQASR improves performance for specific genders, languages, and speakers.

We present Sophia-in-Audition (SiA), a new frontier in virtual production, by employing the humanoid robot Sophia within an UltraStage environment composed of a controllable lighting dome coupled with multiple cameras. We demonstrate Sophia's capability to replicate iconic film segments, follow real performers, and perform a variety of motions and expressions, showcasing her versatility as a virtual actor. Key to this process is the integration of facial motion transfer algorithms and the UltraStage's controllable lighting and multi-camera setup, enabling dynamic performances that align with the director's vision. Our comprehensive user studies indicate positive audience reception towards Sophia's performances, highlighting her potential to reduce the uncanny valley effect in virtual acting. Additionally, the immersive lighting in dynamic clips was highly rated for its naturalness and its ability to mirror professional film standards. The paper presents a first-of-its-kind multi-view robot performance video dataset with dynamic lighting, offering valuable insights for future enhancements in humanoid robotic performers and virtual production techniques. This research contributes significantly to the field by presenting a unique virtual production setup, developing tools for sophisticated performance control, and providing a comprehensive dataset and user study analysis for diverse applications.

Recent advances in text-to-music generation models have opened new avenues in musical creativity. However, music generation usually involves iterative refinements, and how to edit the generated music remains a significant challenge. This paper introduces a novel approach to the editing of music generated by such models, enabling the modification of specific attributes, such as genre, mood and instrument, while maintaining other aspects unchanged. Our method transforms text editing to \textit{latent space manipulation} while adding an extra constraint to enforce consistency. It seamlessly integrates with existing pretrained text-to-music diffusion models without requiring additional training. Experimental results demonstrate superior performance over both zero-shot and certain supervised baselines in style and timbre transfer evaluations. Additionally, we showcase the practical applicability of our approach in real-world music editing scenarios.

Large Language Models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly smart and autonomous, targeting real-world pragmatic missions beyond traditional NLP tasks. As a result, there has been an urgent need to evaluate LLMs as agents on challenging tasks in interactive environments. We present AgentBench, a multi-dimensional evolving benchmark that currently consists of 8 distinct environments to assess LLM-as-Agent's reasoning and decision-making abilities in a multi-turn open-ended generation setting. Our extensive test over 25 LLMs (including APIs and open-sourced models) shows that, while top commercial LLMs present a strong ability of acting as agents in complex environments, there is a significant disparity in performance between them and open-sourced competitors. It also serves as a component of an ongoing project with wider coverage and deeper consideration towards systematic LLM evaluation. The combination of Reinforcement Learning (RL) with deep learning has led to a series of impressive feats, with many believing (deep) RL provides a path towards generally capable agents. However, the success of RL agents is often highly sensitive to design choices in the training process, which may require tedious and error-prone manual tuning. This makes it challenging to use RL for new problems, while also limits its full potential. In many other areas of machine learning, AutoML has shown it is possible to automate such design choices and has also yielded promising initial results when applied to RL. However, Automated Reinforcement Learning (AutoRL) involves not only standard applications of AutoML but also includes additional challenges unique to RL, that naturally produce a different set of methods. As such, AutoRL has been emerging as an important area of research in RL, providing promise in a variety of applications from RNA design to playing games such as Go. Given the diversity of methods and environments considered in RL, much of the research has been conducted in distinct subfields, ranging from meta-learning to evolution. In this survey we seek to unify the field of AutoRL, we provide a common taxonomy, discuss each area in detail and pose open problems which would be of interest to researchers going forward.

In the last years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has achieved a notable momentum that may deliver the best of expectations over many application sectors across the field. For this to occur, the entire community stands in front of the barrier of explainability, an inherent problem of AI techniques brought by sub-symbolism (e.g. ensembles or Deep Neural Networks) that were not present in the last hype of AI. Paradigms underlying this problem fall within the so-called eXplainable AI (XAI) field, which is acknowledged as a crucial feature for the practical deployment of AI models. This overview examines the existing literature in the field of XAI, including a prospect toward what is yet to be reached. We summarize previous efforts to define explainability in Machine Learning, establishing a novel definition that covers prior conceptual propositions with a major focus on the audience for which explainability is sought. We then propose and discuss about a taxonomy of recent contributions related to the explainability of different Machine Learning models, including those aimed at Deep Learning methods for which a second taxonomy is built. This literature analysis serves as the background for a series of challenges faced by XAI, such as the crossroads between data fusion and explainability. Our prospects lead toward the concept of Responsible Artificial Intelligence, namely, a methodology for the large-scale implementation of AI methods in real organizations with fairness, model explainability and accountability at its core. Our ultimate goal is to provide newcomers to XAI with a reference material in order to stimulate future research advances, but also to encourage experts and professionals from other disciplines to embrace the benefits of AI in their activity sectors, without any prior bias for its lack of interpretability.
