The video-language (VL) pretraining has achieved remarkable improvement in multiple downstream tasks. However, the current VL pretraining framework is hard to extend to multiple modalities (N modalities, N>=3) beyond vision and language. We thus propose LanguageBind, taking the language as the bind across different modalities because the language modality is well-explored and contains rich semantics. Specifically, we freeze the language encoder acquired by VL pretraining, then train encoders for other modalities with contrastive learning. As a result, all modalities are mapped to a shared feature space, implementing multi-modal semantic alignment. While LanguageBind ensures that we can extend VL modalities to N modalities, we also need a high-quality dataset with alignment data pairs centered on language. We thus propose VIDAL-10M with Video, Infrared, Depth, Audio and their corresponding Language, naming as VIDAL-10M. In our VIDAL-10M, all videos are from short video platforms with complete semantics rather than truncated segments from long videos, and all the video, depth, infrared, and audio modalities are aligned to their textual descriptions. After pretraining on VIDAL-10M, we outperform ImageBind by 5.8% R@1 on the MSR-VTT dataset with only 15% of the parameters in the zero-shot video-text retrieval task. Beyond this, our LanguageBind has greatly improved in the zero-shot video, audio, depth, and infrared understanding tasks. For instance, LanguageBind surpassing InterVideo by 1.9% on MSR-VTT, 8.8% on MSVD, 6.3% on DiDeMo, and 4.4% on ActivityNet. On the LLVIP and NYU-D datasets, LanguageBind outperforms ImageBind with 23.8% and 11.1% top-1 accuracy. Code address: //github.com/PKU-YuanGroup/LanguageBind.

Large language models (LLMs), like ChatGPT, have greatly simplified text generation tasks. However, they have also raised concerns about privacy risks such as data leakage and unauthorized data collection. Existing solutions for privacy-preserving inference face practical challenges related to computation time and communication costs. In this paper, we propose InferDPT, the first practical framework for the privacy-preserving Inference of black-box LLMs, implementing Differential Privacy in Text generation. InferDPT comprises two key modules: the "perturbation module" utilizes the exponential mechanism to generate a perturbed prompt, facilitating privacy-preserving inference with black-box LLMs, and the "extraction module", inspired by knowledge distillation and retrieval-augmented generation, extracts coherent and consistent text from the perturbed generation result, ensuring successful text generation completion. To address privacy concerns related to previous exponential mechanisms' susceptibility to embedding revision attacks, we introduce RANTEXT, a novel differential privacy mechanism integrated into the perturbation module of InferDPT, which introduces the concept of "RANdom adjacency" for TEXT perturbation within the prompt. Experimental results across three datasets demonstrate that the text generation quality of InferDPT is comparable to that of non-private GPT-4, and RANTEXT surpasses existing state-of-the-art mechanisms, namely, SANTEXT+ and CUSTEXT+ in the trade-off between privacy and utility. Even with an privacy parameter epsilon value of 6.0, RANTEXT achieves an average privacy protection rate exceeding 90% against embedding revision attacks, which is 0.58 times higher than that of SANTEXT+ and 3.35 times higher than that of CUSTEXT+.

Audiovisual segmentation (AVS) is a challenging task that aims to segment visual objects in videos according to their associated acoustic cues. With multiple sound sources and background disturbances involved, establishing robust correspondences between audio and visual contents poses unique challenges due to (1) complex entanglement across sound sources and (2) frequent changes in the occurrence of distinct sound events. Assuming sound events occur independently, the multi-source semantic space can be represented as the Cartesian product of single-source sub-spaces. We are motivated to decompose the multi-source audio semantics into single-source semantics for more effective interactions with visual content. We propose a semantic decomposition method based on product quantization, where the multi-source semantics can be decomposed and represented by several disentangled and noise-suppressed single-source semantics. Furthermore, we introduce a global-to-local quantization mechanism, which distills knowledge from stable global (clip-level) features into local (frame-level) ones, to handle frequent changes in audio semantics. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our semantically decomposed audio representation significantly improves AVS performance, e.g., +21.2% mIoU on the challenging AVS-Semantic benchmark with ResNet50 backbone. //github.com/lxa9867/QSD.

To serve the intricate and varied demands of image editing, precise and flexible manipulation in image content is indispensable. Recently, Drag-based editing methods have gained impressive performance. However, these methods predominantly center on point dragging, resulting in two noteworthy drawbacks, namely "miss tracking", where difficulties arise in accurately tracking the predetermined handle points, and "ambiguous tracking", where tracked points are potentially positioned in wrong regions that closely resemble the handle points. To address the above issues, we propose FreeDrag, a feature dragging methodology designed to free the burden on point tracking. The FreeDrag incorporates two key designs, i.e., template feature via adaptive updating and line search with backtracking, the former improves the stability against drastic content change by elaborately controls feature updating scale after each dragging, while the latter alleviates the misguidance from similar points by actively restricting the search area in a line. These two technologies together contribute to a more stable semantic dragging with higher efficiency. Comprehensive experimental results substantiate that our approach significantly outperforms pre-existing methodologies, offering reliable point-based editing even in various complex scenarios.

While several long-form VideoQA datasets have been introduced, the length of both videos used to curate questions and sub-clips of clues leveraged to answer those questions have not yet reached the criteria for genuine long-form video understanding. Moreover, their QAs are unduly narrow and modality-biased, lacking a wider view of understanding long-term video content with rich dynamics and complex narratives. To remedy this, we introduce MoVQA, a long-form movie question-answering dataset, and benchmark to assess the diverse cognitive capabilities of multimodal systems rely on multi-level temporal lengths, with considering both video length and clue length. Additionally, to take a step towards human-level understanding in long-form video, versatile and multimodal question-answering is designed from the moviegoer-perspective to assess the model capabilities on various perceptual and cognitive axes.Through analysis involving various baselines reveals a consistent trend: the performance of all methods significantly deteriorate with increasing video and clue length. Meanwhile, our established baseline method has shown some improvements, but there is still ample scope for enhancement on our challenging MoVQA dataset. We expect our MoVQA to provide a new perspective and encourage inspiring works on long-form video understanding research.

The ability to animate photo-realistic head avatars reconstructed from monocular portrait video sequences represents a crucial step in bridging the gap between the virtual and real worlds. Recent advancements in head avatar techniques, including explicit 3D morphable meshes (3DMM), point clouds, and neural implicit representation have been exploited for this ongoing research. However, 3DMM-based methods are constrained by their fixed topologies, point-based approaches suffer from a heavy training burden due to the extensive quantity of points involved, and the last ones suffer from limitations in deformation flexibility and rendering efficiency. In response to these challenges, we propose MonoGaussianAvatar (Monocular Gaussian Point-based Head Avatar), a novel approach that harnesses 3D Gaussian point representation coupled with a Gaussian deformation field to learn explicit head avatars from monocular portrait videos. We define our head avatars with Gaussian points characterized by adaptable shapes, enabling flexible topology. These points exhibit movement with a Gaussian deformation field in alignment with the target pose and expression of a person, facilitating efficient deformation. Additionally, the Gaussian points have controllable shape, size, color, and opacity combined with Gaussian splatting, allowing for efficient training and rendering. Experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our method, which achieves state-of-the-art results among previous methods.

Anisotropic low-resolution (LR) magnetic resonance (MR) images are fast to obtain but hinder automated processing. We propose to use denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) to super-resolve these 2D-acquired LR MR slices. This paper introduces AniRes2D, a novel approach combining DDPM with a residual prediction for 2D super-resolution (SR). Results demonstrate that AniRes2D outperforms several other DDPM-based models in quantitative metrics, visual quality, and out-of-domain evaluation. We use a trained AniRes2D to super-resolve 3D volumes slice by slice, where comparative quantitative results and reduced skull aliasing are achieved compared to a recent state-of-the-art self-supervised 3D super-resolution method. Furthermore, we explored the use of noise conditioning augmentation (NCA) as an alternative augmentation technique for DDPM-based SR models, but it was found to reduce performance. Our findings contribute valuable insights to the application of DDPMs for SR of anisotropic MR images.

Recent advancements in diffusion models have unlocked unprecedented abilities in visual creation. However, current text-to-video generation models struggle with the trade-off among movement range, action coherence and object consistency. To mitigate this issue, we present a controllable text-to-video (T2V) diffusion model, called Control-A-Video, capable of maintaining consistency while customizable video synthesis. Based on a pre-trained conditional text-to-image (T2I) diffusion model, our model aims to generate videos conditioned on a sequence of control signals, such as edge or depth maps. For the purpose of improving object consistency, Control-A-Video integrates motion priors and content priors into video generation. We propose two motion-adaptive noise initialization strategies, which are based on pixel residual and optical flow, to introduce motion priors from input videos, producing more coherent videos. Moreover, a first-frame conditioned controller is proposed to generate videos from content priors of the first frame, which facilitates the semantic alignment with text and allows longer video generation in an auto-regressive manner. With the proposed architecture and strategies, our model achieves resource-efficient convergence and generate consistent and coherent videos with fine-grained control. Extensive experiments demonstrate its success in various video generative tasks such as video editing and video style transfer, outperforming previous methods in terms of consistency and quality.

We introduce a system that allows users of Ableton Live to create MIDI-clips by naming them with musical descriptions. Users can compose by typing the desired musical content directly in Ableton's clip view, which is then inserted by our integrated system. This allows users to stay in the flow of their creative process while quickly generating musical ideas. The system works by prompting ChatGPT to reply using one of several text-based musical formats, such as ABC notation, chord symbols, or drum tablature. This is an important step in integrating generative AI tools into pre-existing musical workflows, and could be valuable for content makers who prefer to express their creative vision through descriptive language. Transformer-based pretrained language models (T-PTLMs) have achieved great success in almost every NLP task. The evolution of these models started with GPT and BERT. These models are built on the top of transformers, self-supervised learning and transfer learning. Transformed-based PTLMs learn universal language representations from large volumes of text data using self-supervised learning and transfer this knowledge to downstream tasks. These models provide good background knowledge to downstream tasks which avoids training of downstream models from scratch. In this comprehensive survey paper, we initially give a brief overview of self-supervised learning. Next, we explain various core concepts like pretraining, pretraining methods, pretraining tasks, embeddings and downstream adaptation methods. Next, we present a new taxonomy of T-PTLMs and then give brief overview of various benchmarks including both intrinsic and extrinsic. We present a summary of various useful libraries to work with T-PTLMs. Finally, we highlight some of the future research directions which will further improve these models. We strongly believe that this comprehensive survey paper will serve as a good reference to learn the core concepts as well as to stay updated with the recent happenings in T-PTLMs.

Answering questions that require reading texts in an image is challenging for current models. One key difficulty of this task is that rare, polysemous, and ambiguous words frequently appear in images, e.g., names of places, products, and sports teams. To overcome this difficulty, only resorting to pre-trained word embedding models is far from enough. A desired model should utilize the rich information in multiple modalities of the image to help understand the meaning of scene texts, e.g., the prominent text on a bottle is most likely to be the brand. Following this idea, we propose a novel VQA approach, Multi-Modal Graph Neural Network (MM-GNN). It first represents an image as a graph consisting of three sub-graphs, depicting visual, semantic, and numeric modalities respectively. Then, we introduce three aggregators which guide the message passing from one graph to another to utilize the contexts in various modalities, so as to refine the features of nodes. The updated nodes have better features for the downstream question answering module. Experimental evaluations show that our MM-GNN represents the scene texts better and obviously facilitates the performances on two VQA tasks that require reading scene texts.
