This paper presents a novel and efficient collision checking approach called Updating and Collision Check Skipping Quad-tree (USQ) for multi-robot motion planning. USQ extends the standard quad-tree data structure through a time-efficient update mechanism, which significantly reduces the total number of collision checks and the collision checking time. In addition, it handles transitions at the quad-tree quadrant boundaries based on worst-case trajectories of agents. These extensions make quad-trees suitable for efficient collision checking in multi-robot motion planning of large robot teams. We evaluate the efficiency of USQ in comparison with Regenerating Quad-tree (RQ) from scratch at each timestep and naive pairwise collision checking across a variety of randomized environments. The results indicate that USQ significantly reduces the number of collision checks and the collision checking time compared to other baselines for different numbers of robots and map sizes. In a 50-robot experiment, USQ accurately detected all collisions, outperforming RQ which has longer run-times and/or misses up to 25% of collisions.

In this paper, we propose a 2-stage low-light image enhancement method called Self-Reference Deep Adaptive Curve Estimation (Self-DACE). In the first stage, we present an intuitive, lightweight, fast, and unsupervised luminance enhancement algorithm. The algorithm is based on a novel low-light enhancement curve that can be used to locally boost image brightness. We also propose a new loss function with a simplified physical model designed to preserve natural images' color, structure, and fidelity. We use a vanilla CNN to map each pixel through deep Adaptive Adjustment Curves (AAC) while preserving the local image structure. Secondly, we introduce the corresponding denoising scheme to remove the latent noise in the darkness. We approximately model the noise in the dark and deploy a Denoising-Net to estimate and remove the noise after the first stage. Exhaustive qualitative and quantitative analysis shows that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art algorithms on multiple real-world datasets.

This paper proposes a novel approach for detecting objects using mobile robots in the context of the RoboCup Standard Platform League, with a primary focus on detecting the ball. The challenge lies in detecting a dynamic object in varying lighting conditions and blurred images caused by fast movements. To address this challenge, the paper presents a convolutional neural network architecture designed specifically for computationally constrained robotic platforms. The proposed CNN is trained to achieve high precision classification of single objects in image patches and to determine their precise spatial positions. The paper further integrates Early Exits into the existing high-precision CNN architecture to reduce the computational cost of easily rejectable cases in the background class. The training process involves a composite loss function based on confidence and positional losses with dynamic weighting and data augmentation. The proposed approach achieves a precision of 100% on the validation dataset and a recall of almost 87%, while maintaining an execution time of around 170 $\mu$s per hypotheses. By combining the proposed approach with an Early Exit, a runtime optimization of more than 28%, on average, can be achieved compared to the original CNN. Overall, this paper provides an efficient solution for an enhanced detection of objects, especially the ball, in computationally constrained robotic platforms.

This study considers a novel full-duplex (FD) massive multiple-input multiple-output (mMIMO) system using hybrid beamforming (HBF) architecture, which allows for simultaneous uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) transmission over the same frequency band. Particularly, our objective is to mitigate the strong self-interference (SI) solely on the design of UL and DL RF beamforming stages jointly with sub-array selection (SAS) for transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) sub-arrays at base station (BS). Based on the measured SI channel in an anechoic chamber, we propose a min-SI beamforming scheme with SAS, which applies perturbations to the beam directivity to enhance SI suppression in UL and DL beam directions. To solve this challenging nonconvex optimization problem, we propose a swarm intelligence-based algorithmic solution to find the optimal perturbations as well as the Tx and Rx sub-arrays to minimize SI subject to the directivity degradation constraints for the UL and DL beams. The results show that the proposed min-SI BF scheme can achieve SI suppression as high as 78 dB in FD mMIMO systems.

This study presents a novel multimodal fusion model for three-dimensional mineral prospectivity mapping (3D MPM), effectively integrating structural and fluid information through a deep network architecture. Leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Multilayer Perceptrons (MLP), the model employs canonical correlation analysis (CCA) to align and fuse multimodal features. Rigorous evaluation on the Jiaojia gold deposit dataset demonstrates the model's superior performance in distinguishing ore-bearing instances and predicting mineral prospectivity, outperforming other models in result analyses. Ablation studies further reveal the benefits of joint feature utilization and CCA incorporation. This research not only advances mineral prospectivity modeling but also highlights the pivotal role of data integration and feature alignment for enhanced exploration decision-making.

Using accelerators based on analog computing is an efficient way to process the immensely large workloads in Neural Networks (NNs). One example of an analog computing scheme for NNs is Integrate-and-Fire (IF) Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs). However, to achieve high inference accuracy in IF-SNNs, the analog hardware needs to represent current-based multiply-accumulate (MAC) levels as spike times, for which a large membrane capacitor needs to be charged for a certain amount of time. A large capacitor results in high energy use, considerable area cost, and long latency, constituting one of the major bottlenecks in analog IF-SNN implementations. In this work, we propose a HW/SW Codesign method, called CapMin, for capacitor size minimization in analog computing IF-SNNs. CapMin minimizes the capacitor size by reducing the number of spike times needed for accurate operation of the HW, based on the absolute frequency of MAC level occurrences in the SW. To increase the operation of IF-SNNs to current variation, we propose the method CapMin-V, which trades capacitor size for protection based on the reduced capacitor size found in CapMin. In our experiments, CapMin achieves more than a 14$\times$ reduction in capacitor size over the state of the art, while CapMin-V achieves increased variation tolerance in the IF-SNN operation, requiring only a small increase in capacitor size.

Open Radio Access Network systems, with their virtualized base stations (vBSs), offer operators the benefits of increased flexibility, reduced costs, vendor diversity, and interoperability. Optimizing the allocation of resources in a vBS is challenging since it requires knowledge of the environment, (i.e., "external'' information), such as traffic demands and channel quality, which is difficult to acquire precisely over short intervals of a few seconds. To tackle this problem, we propose an online learning algorithm that balances the effective throughput and vBS energy consumption, even under unforeseeable and "challenging'' environments; for instance, non-stationary or adversarial traffic demands. We also develop a meta-learning scheme, which leverages the power of other algorithmic approaches, tailored for more "easy'' environments, and dynamically chooses the best performing one, thus enhancing the overall system's versatility and effectiveness. We prove the proposed solutions achieve sub-linear regret, providing zero average optimality gap even in challenging environments. The performance of the algorithms is evaluated with real-world data and various trace-driven evaluations, indicating savings of up to 64.5% in the power consumption of a vBS compared with state-of-the-art benchmarks.

In this paper, we propose a probabilistic reduced-dimensional vector autoregressive (PredVAR) model with oblique projections. This model partitions the measurement space into a dynamic subspace and a static subspace that do not need to be orthogonal. The partition allows us to apply an oblique projection to extract dynamic latent variables (DLVs) from high-dimensional data with maximized predictability. We develop an alternating iterative PredVAR algorithm that exploits the interaction between updating the latent VAR dynamics and estimating the oblique projection, using expectation maximization (EM) and a statistical constraint. In addition, the noise covariance matrices are estimated as a natural outcome of the EM method. A simulation case study of the nonlinear Lorenz oscillation system illustrates the advantages of the proposed approach over two alternatives.

This paper presents an exhaustive quantitative and qualitative evaluation of Large Language Models (LLMs) for Knowledge Graph (KG) construction and reasoning. We employ eight distinct datasets that encompass aspects including entity, relation and event extraction, link prediction, and question answering. Empirically, our findings suggest that GPT-4 outperforms ChatGPT in the majority of tasks and even surpasses fine-tuned models in certain reasoning and question-answering datasets. Moreover, our investigation extends to the potential generalization ability of LLMs for information extraction, which culminates in the presentation of the Virtual Knowledge Extraction task and the development of the VINE dataset. Drawing on these empirical findings, we further propose AutoKG, a multi-agent-based approach employing LLMs for KG construction and reasoning, which aims to chart the future of this field and offer exciting opportunities for advancement. We anticipate that our research can provide invaluable insights for future undertakings of KG\footnote{Code and datasets will be available in //github.com/zjunlp/AutoKG.

In this paper, we propose a novel Feature Decomposition and Reconstruction Learning (FDRL) method for effective facial expression recognition. We view the expression information as the combination of the shared information (expression similarities) across different expressions and the unique information (expression-specific variations) for each expression. More specifically, FDRL mainly consists of two crucial networks: a Feature Decomposition Network (FDN) and a Feature Reconstruction Network (FRN). In particular, FDN first decomposes the basic features extracted from a backbone network into a set of facial action-aware latent features to model expression similarities. Then, FRN captures the intra-feature and inter-feature relationships for latent features to characterize expression-specific variations, and reconstructs the expression feature. To this end, two modules including an intra-feature relation modeling module and an inter-feature relation modeling module are developed in FRN. Experimental results on both the in-the-lab databases (including CK+, MMI, and Oulu-CASIA) and the in-the-wild databases (including RAF-DB and SFEW) show that the proposed FDRL method consistently achieves higher recognition accuracy than several state-of-the-art methods. This clearly highlights the benefit of feature decomposition and reconstruction for classifying expressions.

Manually labeling objects by tracing their boundaries is a laborious process. In Polygon-RNN++ the authors proposed Polygon-RNN that produces polygonal annotations in a recurrent manner using a CNN-RNN architecture, allowing interactive correction via humans-in-the-loop. We propose a new framework that alleviates the sequential nature of Polygon-RNN, by predicting all vertices simultaneously using a Graph Convolutional Network (GCN). Our model is trained end-to-end. It supports object annotation by either polygons or splines, facilitating labeling efficiency for both line-based and curved objects. We show that Curve-GCN outperforms all existing approaches in automatic mode, including the powerful PSP-DeepLab and is significantly more efficient in interactive mode than Polygon-RNN++. Our model runs at 29.3ms in automatic, and 2.6ms in interactive mode, making it 10x and 100x faster than Polygon-RNN++.
