This paper explores the representation of vehicle lights in computer vision and its implications for various tasks in the field of autonomous driving. Different specifications for representing vehicle lights, including bounding boxes, center points, corner points, and segmentation masks, are discussed in terms of their strengths and weaknesses. Three important tasks in autonomous driving that can benefit from vehicle light detection are identified: nighttime vehicle detection, 3D vehicle orientation estimation, and dynamic trajectory cues. Each task may require a different representation of the light. The challenges of collecting and annotating large datasets for training data-driven models are also addressed, leading to introduction of the LISA Vehicle Lights Dataset and associated Light Visibility Model, which provides light annotations specifically designed for downstream applications in vehicle detection, intent and trajectory prediction, and safe path planning. A comparison of existing vehicle light datasets is provided, highlighting the unique features and limitations of each dataset. Overall, this paper provides insights into the representation of vehicle lights and the importance of accurate annotations for training effective detection models in autonomous driving applications. This paper addresses the multi-faceted problem of robot grasping, where multiple criteria may conflict and differ in importance. We introduce Grasp Ranking and Criteria Evaluation (GRaCE), a novel approach that employs hierarchical rule-based logic and a rank-preserving utility function to optimize grasps based on various criteria such as stability, kinematic constraints, and goal-oriented functionalities. Additionally, we propose GRaCE-OPT, a hybrid optimization strategy that combines gradient-based and gradient-free methods to effectively navigate the complex, non-convex utility function. Experimental results in both simulated and real-world scenarios show that GRaCE requires fewer samples to achieve comparable or superior performance relative to existing methods. The modular architecture of GRaCE allows for easy customization and adaptation to specific application needs.

This paper explores the possibility of using ChatGPT to develop advanced phishing attacks and automate their large-scale deployment. We make ChatGPT generate the following parts of a phishing attack: i) cloning a targeted website, ii) integrating code for stealing credentials, iii) obfuscating code, iv) automating website deployment on a hosting provider, v) registering a phishing domain name, and vi) integrating the website with a reverse proxy. The initial assessment of the automatically generated phishing kits highlights their rapid generation and deployment process as well as the close resemblance of the resulting pages to the target website. More broadly, we demonstrate that recent advances in AI underscore the potential risks of its misuse in phishing attacks, which can lead to their increased prevalence and severity. This highlights the necessity for enhanced countermeasures within AI systems.

We introduce FedDCT, a novel distributed learning paradigm that enables the usage of large, high-performance CNNs on resource-limited edge devices. As opposed to traditional FL approaches, which require each client to train the full-size neural network independently during each training round, the proposed FedDCT allows a cluster of several clients to collaboratively train a large deep learning model by dividing it into an ensemble of several small sub-models and train them on multiple devices in parallel while maintaining privacy. In this collaborative training process, clients from the same cluster can also learn from each other, further improving their ensemble performance. In the aggregation stage, the server takes a weighted average of all the ensemble models trained by all the clusters. FedDCT reduces the memory requirements and allows low-end devices to participate in FL. We empirically conduct extensive experiments on standardized datasets, including CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, and two real-world medical datasets HAM10000 and VAIPE. Experimental results show that FedDCT outperforms a set of current SOTA FL methods with interesting convergence behaviors. Furthermore, compared to other existing approaches, FedDCT achieves higher accuracy and substantially reduces the number of communication rounds (with $4-8$ times fewer memory requirements) to achieve the desired accuracy on the testing dataset without incurring any extra training cost on the server side.

Due to the imbalanced nature of networked observational data, the causal effect predictions for some individuals can severely violate the positivity/overlap assumption, rendering unreliable estimations. Nevertheless, this potential risk of individual-level treatment effect estimation on networked data has been largely under-explored. To create a more trustworthy causal effect estimator, we propose the uncertainty-aware graph deep kernel learning (GraphDKL) framework with Lipschitz constraint to model the prediction uncertainty with Gaussian process and identify unreliable estimations. To the best of our knowledge, GraphDKL is the first framework to tackle the violation of positivity assumption when performing causal effect estimation with graphs. With extensive experiments, we demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method in uncertainty-aware causal effect estimation on networked data.

This paper delves into the intersection of computational theory and music, examining the concept of undecidability and its significant, yet overlooked, implications within the realm of modern music composition and production. It posits that undecidability, a principle traditionally associated with theoretical computer science, extends its relevance to the music industry. The study adopts a multidimensional approach, focusing on five key areas: (1) the Turing completeness of Ableton, a widely used digital audio workstation, (2) the undecidability of satisfiability in sound creation utilizing an array of effects, (3) the undecidability of constraints on polymeters in musical compositions, (4) the undecidability of satisfiability in just intonation harmony constraints, and (5) the undecidability of "new ordering systems". In addition to providing theoretical proof for these assertions, the paper elucidates the practical relevance of these concepts for practitioners outside the field of theoretical computer science. The ultimate aim is to foster a new understanding of undecidability in music, highlighting its broader applicability and potential to influence contemporary computer-assisted (and traditional) music making.

Knowledge graph reasoning (KGR), aiming to deduce new facts from existing facts based on mined logic rules underlying knowledge graphs (KGs), has become a fast-growing research direction. It has been proven to significantly benefit the usage of KGs in many AI applications, such as question answering and recommendation systems, etc. According to the graph types, the existing KGR models can be roughly divided into three categories, \textit{i.e.,} static models, temporal models, and multi-modal models. The early works in this domain mainly focus on static KGR and tend to directly apply general knowledge graph embedding models to the reasoning task. However, these models are not suitable for more complex but practical tasks, such as inductive static KGR, temporal KGR, and multi-modal KGR. To this end, multiple works have been developed recently, but no survey papers and open-source repositories comprehensively summarize and discuss models in this important direction. To fill the gap, we conduct a survey for knowledge graph reasoning tracing from static to temporal and then to multi-modal KGs. Concretely, the preliminaries, summaries of KGR models, and typical datasets are introduced and discussed consequently. Moreover, we discuss the challenges and potential opportunities. The incredible development of federated learning (FL) has benefited various tasks in the domains of computer vision and natural language processing, and the existing frameworks such as TFF and FATE has made the deployment easy in real-world applications. However, federated graph learning (FGL), even though graph data are prevalent, has not been well supported due to its unique characteristics and requirements. The lack of FGL-related framework increases the efforts for accomplishing reproducible research and deploying in real-world applications. Motivated by such strong demand, in this paper, we first discuss the challenges in creating an easy-to-use FGL package and accordingly present our implemented package FederatedScope-GNN (FS-G), which provides (1) a unified view for modularizing and expressing FGL algorithms; (2) comprehensive DataZoo and ModelZoo for out-of-the-box FGL capability; (3) an efficient model auto-tuning component; and (4) off-the-shelf privacy attack and defense abilities. We validate the effectiveness of FS-G by conducting extensive experiments, which simultaneously gains many valuable insights about FGL for the community. Moreover, we employ FS-G to serve the FGL application in real-world E-commerce scenarios, where the attained improvements indicate great potential business benefits. We publicly release FS-G, as submodules of FederatedScope, at //github.com/alibaba/FederatedScope to promote FGL's research and enable broad applications that would otherwise be infeasible due to the lack of a dedicated package.

This work considers the question of how convenient access to copious data impacts our ability to learn causal effects and relations. In what ways is learning causality in the era of big data different from -- or the same as -- the traditional one? To answer this question, this survey provides a comprehensive and structured review of both traditional and frontier methods in learning causality and relations along with the connections between causality and machine learning. This work points out on a case-by-case basis how big data facilitates, complicates, or motivates each approach.

Lots of learning tasks require dealing with graph data which contains rich relation information among elements. Modeling physics system, learning molecular fingerprints, predicting protein interface, and classifying diseases require that a model to learn from graph inputs. In other domains such as learning from non-structural data like texts and images, reasoning on extracted structures, like the dependency tree of sentences and the scene graph of images, is an important research topic which also needs graph reasoning models. Graph neural networks (GNNs) are connectionist models that capture the dependence of graphs via message passing between the nodes of graphs. Unlike standard neural networks, graph neural networks retain a state that can represent information from its neighborhood with an arbitrary depth. Although the primitive graph neural networks have been found difficult to train for a fixed point, recent advances in network architectures, optimization techniques, and parallel computation have enabled successful learning with them. In recent years, systems based on graph convolutional network (GCN) and gated graph neural network (GGNN) have demonstrated ground-breaking performance on many tasks mentioned above. In this survey, we provide a detailed review over existing graph neural network models, systematically categorize the applications, and propose four open problems for future research.

Recent years have witnessed the enormous success of low-dimensional vector space representations of knowledge graphs to predict missing facts or find erroneous ones. Currently, however, it is not yet well-understood how ontological knowledge, e.g. given as a set of (existential) rules, can be embedded in a principled way. To address this shortcoming, in this paper we introduce a framework based on convex regions, which can faithfully incorporate ontological knowledge into the vector space embedding. Our technical contribution is two-fold. First, we show that some of the most popular existing embedding approaches are not capable of modelling even very simple types of rules. Second, we show that our framework can represent ontologies that are expressed using so-called quasi-chained existential rules in an exact way, such that any set of facts which is induced using that vector space embedding is logically consistent and deductively closed with respect to the input ontology.
