The objective of the multi-condition human motion synthesis task is to incorporate diverse conditional inputs, encompassing various forms like text, music, speech, and more. This endows the task with the capability to adapt across multiple scenarios, ranging from text-to-motion and music-to-dance, among others. While existing research has primarily focused on single conditions, the multi-condition human motion generation remains underexplored. In this paper, we address these challenges by introducing MCM, a novel paradigm for motion synthesis that spans multiple scenarios under diverse conditions. The MCM framework is able to integrate with any DDPM-like diffusion model to accommodate multi-conditional information input while preserving its generative capabilities. Specifically, MCM employs two-branch architecture consisting of a main branch and a control branch. The control branch shares the same structure as the main branch and is initialized with the parameters of the main branch, effectively maintaining the generation ability of the main branch and supporting multi-condition input. We also introduce a Transformer-based diffusion model MWNet (DDPM-like) as our main branch that can capture the spatial complexity and inter-joint correlations in motion sequences through a channel-dimension self-attention module. Quantitative comparisons demonstrate that our approach achieves SoTA results in both text-to-motion and competitive results in music-to-dance tasks, comparable to task-specific methods. Furthermore, the qualitative evaluation shows that MCM not only streamlines the adaptation of methodologies originally designed for text-to-motion tasks to domains like music-to-dance and speech-to-gesture, eliminating the need for extensive network re-configurations but also enables effective multi-condition modal control, realizing "once trained is motion need".

We propose task-adaptive tokenization as a way to adapt the generation pipeline to the specifics of a downstream task and enhance long-form generation in mental health. Inspired by insights from cognitive science, our task-adaptive tokenizer samples variable segmentations from multiple outcomes, with sampling probabilities optimized based on task-specific data. We introduce a strategy for building a specialized vocabulary and introduce a vocabulary merging protocol that allows for the integration of task-specific tokens into the pre-trained model's tokenization step. Through extensive experiments on psychological question-answering tasks in both Chinese and English, we find that our task-adaptive tokenization approach brings a significant improvement in generation performance while using up to 60% fewer tokens. Preliminary experiments point to promising results when using our tokenization approach with very large language models.

With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence technology, the usage of machine learning models is gradually becoming part of our daily lives. High-quality models rely not only on efficient optimization algorithms but also on the training and learning processes built upon vast amounts of data and computational power. However, in practice, due to various challenges such as limited computational resources and data privacy concerns, users in need of models often cannot train machine learning models locally. This has led them to explore alternative approaches such as outsourced learning and federated learning. While these methods address the feasibility of model training effectively, they introduce concerns about the trustworthiness of the training process since computations are not performed locally. Similarly, there are trustworthiness issues associated with outsourced model inference. These two problems can be summarized as the trustworthiness problem of model computations: How can one verify that the results computed by other participants are derived according to the specified algorithm, model, and input data? To address this challenge, verifiable machine learning (VML) has emerged. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of zero-knowledge proof-based verifiable machine learning (ZKP-VML) technology. We first analyze the potential verifiability issues that may exist in different machine learning scenarios. Subsequently, we provide a formal definition of ZKP-VML. We then conduct a detailed analysis and classification of existing works based on their technical approaches. Finally, we discuss the key challenges and future directions in the field of ZKP-based VML.

Recently, deep learning-based tooth segmentation methods have been limited by the expensive and time-consuming processes of data collection and labeling. Achieving high-precision segmentation with limited datasets is critical. A viable solution to this entails fine-tuning pre-trained multiview-based models, thereby enhancing performance with limited data. However, relying solely on two-dimensional (2D) images for three-dimensional (3D) tooth segmentation can produce suboptimal outcomes because of occlusion and deformation, i.e., incomplete and distorted shape perception. To improve this fine-tuning-based solution, this paper advocates 2D-3D joint perception. The fundamental challenge in employing 2D-3D joint perception with limited data is that the 3D-related inputs and modules must follow a lightweight policy instead of using huge 3D data and parameter-rich modules that require extensive training data. Following this lightweight policy, this paper selects skeletons as the 3D inputs and introduces MSFormer, a novel method for tooth segmentation. MSFormer incorporates two lightweight modules into existing multiview-based models: a 3D-skeleton perception module to extract 3D perception from skeletons and a skeleton-image contrastive learning module to obtain the 2D-3D joint perception by fusing both multiview and skeleton perceptions. The experimental results reveal that MSFormer paired with large pre-trained multiview models achieves state-of-the-art performance, requiring only 100 training meshes. Furthermore, the segmentation accuracy is improved by 2.4%-5.5% with the increasing volume of training data.

Existing datasets for autonomous driving (AD) often lack diversity and long-range capabilities, focusing instead on 360{\deg} perception and temporal reasoning. To address this gap, we introduce Zenseact Open Dataset (ZOD), a large-scale and diverse multimodal dataset collected over two years in various European countries, covering an area 9x that of existing datasets. ZOD boasts the highest range and resolution sensors among comparable datasets, coupled with detailed keyframe annotations for 2D and 3D objects (up to 245m), road instance/semantic segmentation, traffic sign recognition, and road classification. We believe that this unique combination will facilitate breakthroughs in long-range perception and multi-task learning. The dataset is composed of Frames, Sequences, and Drives, designed to encompass both data diversity and support for spatio-temporal learning, sensor fusion, localization, and mapping. Frames consist of 100k curated camera images with two seconds of other supporting sensor data, while the 1473 Sequences and 29 Drives include the entire sensor suite for 20 seconds and a few minutes, respectively. ZOD is the only large-scale AD dataset released under a permissive license, allowing for both research and commercial use. Question answering over hybrid contexts is a complex task, which requires the combination of information extracted from unstructured texts and structured tables in various ways. Recently, In-Context Learning demonstrated significant performance advances for reasoning tasks. In this paradigm, a large language model performs predictions based on a small set of supporting exemplars. The performance of In-Context Learning depends heavily on the selection procedure of the supporting exemplars, particularly in the case of HybridQA, where considering the diversity of reasoning chains and the large size of the hybrid contexts becomes crucial. In this work, we present Selection of ExEmplars for hybrid Reasoning (SEER), a novel method for selecting a set of exemplars that is both representative and diverse. The key novelty of SEER is that it formulates exemplar selection as a Knapsack Integer Linear Program. The Knapsack framework provides the flexibility to incorporate diversity constraints that prioritize exemplars with desirable attributes, and capacity constraints that ensure that the prompt size respects the provided capacity budgets. The effectiveness of SEER is demonstrated on FinQA and TAT-QA, two real-world benchmarks for HybridQA, where it outperforms previous exemplar selection methods.

Traditional SLAM algorithms highly rely on basic geometry features such as points and lines, which are susceptible to environment. Conversely, higher-level object features offer richer information that is crucial for enhancing the overall performance of the framework. However, the effective utilization of object features necessitates careful consideration of various challenges, including complexity and process velocity. Given the advantages and disadvantages of both high-level object feature and low-level geometry features, it becomes essential to make informed choices within the SLAM framework. Taking these factors into account, this paper provides a thorough comparison between geometry features and object features, analyzes the current mainstream application methods of object features in SLAM frameworks, and presents a comprehensive overview of the main challenges involved in object-based SLAM.

Recently this classical fact re-emerged in a theory of gradient-based optimization of neural networks. In the novel framework, the hardness of a class is usually quantified by the variance of the gradient with respect to a random choice of a target function. A set of functions of the form $x\to ax \bmod p$, where $a$ is taken from ${\mathbb Z}_p$, has attracted some attention from deep learning theorists and cryptographers recently. This class can be understood as a subset of $p$-periodic functions on ${\mathbb Z}$ and is tightly connected with a class of high-frequency periodic functions on the real line. We present a mathematical analysis of limitations and challenges associated with using gradient-based learning techniques to train a high-frequency periodic function or modular multiplication from examples. We highlight that the variance of the gradient is negligibly small in both cases when either a frequency or the prime base $p$ is large. This in turn prevents such a learning algorithm from being successful.

Existing private synthetic data generation algorithms are agnostic to downstream tasks. However, end users may have specific requirements that the synthetic data must satisfy. Failure to meet these requirements could significantly reduce the utility of the data for downstream use. We introduce a post-processing technique that improves the utility of the synthetic data with respect to measures selected by the end user, while preserving strong privacy guarantees and dataset quality. Our technique involves resampling from the synthetic data to filter out samples that do not meet the selected utility measures, using an efficient stochastic first-order algorithm to find optimal resampling weights. Through comprehensive numerical experiments, we demonstrate that our approach consistently improves the utility of synthetic data across multiple benchmark datasets and state-of-the-art synthetic data generation algorithms.

Despite their better convergence properties compared to first-order optimizers, second-order optimizers for deep learning have been less popular due to their significant computational costs. The primary efficiency bottleneck in such optimizers is matrix inverse calculations in the preconditioning step, which are expensive to compute on GPUs. In this paper, we introduce Jorge, a second-order optimizer that promises the best of both worlds -- rapid convergence benefits of second-order methods, and high computational efficiency typical of first-order methods. We address the primary computational bottleneck of computing matrix inverses by completely eliminating them using an approximation of the preconditioner computation. This makes Jorge extremely efficient on GPUs in terms of wall-clock time. Further, we describe an approach to determine Jorge's hyperparameters directly from a well-tuned SGD baseline, thereby significantly minimizing tuning efforts. Our empirical evaluations demonstrate the distinct advantages of using Jorge, outperforming state-of-the-art optimizers such as SGD, AdamW, and Shampoo across multiple deep learning models, both in terms of sample efficiency and wall-clock time.

The need to model and analyse dynamic systems operating over complex data is ubiquitous in AI and neighboring areas, in particular business process management. Analysing such data-aware systems is a notoriously difficult problem, as they are intrinsically infinite-state. Existing approaches work for specific datatypes, and/or limit themselves to the verification of safety properties. In this paper, we lift both such limitations, studying for the first time linear-time verification for so-called data-aware processes modulo theories (DMTs), from the foundational and practical point of view. The DMT model is very general, as it supports processes operating over variables that can store arbitrary types of data, ranging over infinite domains and equipped with domain-specific predicates. Specifically, we provide four contributions. First, we devise a semi-decision procedure for linear-time verification of DMTs, which works for a very large class of datatypes obeying to mild model-theoretic assumptions. The procedure relies on a unique combination of automata-theoretic and cover computation techniques to respectively deal with linear-time properties and datatypes. Second, we identify an abstract, semantic property that guarantees the existence of a faithful finite-state abstraction of the original system, and show that our method becomes a decision procedure in this case. Third, we identify concrete, checkable classes of systems that satisfy this property, generalising several results in the literature. Finally, we present an implementation and a first experimental evaluation.
