Datacenters are increasingly becoming heterogeneous, and are starting to include specialized hardware for networking, video processing, and especially deep learning. To leverage the heterogeneous compute capability of modern datacenters, we develop an approach for compiler-level partitioning of deep neural networks (DNNs) onto multiple interconnected hardware devices. We present a general framework for heterogeneous DNN compilation, offering automatic partitioning and device mapping. Our scheduler integrates both an exact solver, through a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulation, and a modularity-based heuristic for scalability. Furthermore, we propose a theoretical lower bound formula for the optimal solution, which enables the assessment of the heuristic solutions' quality. We evaluate our scheduler in optimizing both conventional DNNs and randomly-wired neural networks, subject to latency and throughput constraints, on a heterogeneous system comprised of a CPU and two distinct GPUs. Compared to na\"ively running DNNs on the fastest GPU, he proposed framework can achieve more than 3$\times$ times lower latency and up to 2.9$\times$ higher throughput by automatically leveraging both data and model parallelism to deploy DNNs on our sample heterogeneous server node. Moreover, our modularity-based "splitting" heuristic improves the solution runtime up to 395$\times$ without noticeably sacrificing solution quality compared to an exact MILP solution, and outperforms all other heuristics by 30-60% solution quality. Finally, our case study shows how we can extend our framework to schedule large language models across multiple heterogeneous servers by exploiting symmetry in the hardware setup. Panoramic videos contain richer spatial information and have attracted tremendous amounts of attention due to their exceptional experience in some fields such as autonomous driving and virtual reality. However, existing datasets for video segmentation only focus on conventional planar images. To address the challenge, in this paper, we present a panoramic video dataset, PanoVOS. The dataset provides 150 videos with high video resolutions and diverse motions. To quantify the domain gap between 2D planar videos and panoramic videos, we evaluate 15 off-the-shelf video object segmentation (VOS) models on PanoVOS. Through error analysis, we found that all of them fail to tackle pixel-level content discontinues of panoramic videos. Thus, we present a Panoramic Space Consistency Transformer (PSCFormer), which can effectively utilize the semantic boundary information of the previous frame for pixel-level matching with the current frame. Extensive experiments demonstrate that compared with the previous SOTA models, our PSCFormer network exhibits a great advantage in terms of segmentation results under the panoramic setting. Our dataset poses new challenges in panoramic VOS and we hope that our PanoVOS can advance the development of panoramic segmentation/tracking.

While videoconferencing is prevalent, concurrent participation channels are limited. People experience challenges keeping up with the discussion, and misunderstanding frequently occurs. Through a formative study, we probed into the design space of providing real-time transcripts as an extra communication space for video meeting attendees. We then present MeetScript, a system that provides parallel participation channels through real-time interactive transcripts. MeetScript visualizes the discussion through a chat-alike interface and allows meeting attendees to make real-time collaborative annotations. Over time, MeetScript gradually hides extraneous content to retain the most essential information on the transcript, with the goal of reducing the cognitive load required on users to process the information in real time. In an experiment with 80 users in 22 teams, we compared MeetScript with two baseline conditions where participants used Zoom alone (business-as-usual), or Zoom with an adds-on transcription service (Otter.ai). We found that MeetScript significantly enhanced people's non-verbal participation and recollection of their teams' decision-making processes compared to the baselines. Users liked that MeetScript allowed them to easily navigate the transcript and contextualize feedback and new ideas with existing ones.

A good distortion representation is crucial for the success of deep blind image quality assessment (BIQA). However, most previous methods do not effectively model the relationship between distortions or the distribution of samples with the same distortion type but different distortion levels. In this work, we start from the analysis of the relationship between perceptual image quality and distortion-related factors, such as distortion types and levels. Then, we propose a Distortion Graph Representation (DGR) learning framework for IQA, named GraphIQA, in which each distortion is represented as a graph, i.e., DGR. One can distinguish distortion types by learning the contrast relationship between these different DGRs, and infer the ranking distribution of samples from different levels in a DGR. Specifically, we develop two sub-networks to learn the DGRs: a) Type Discrimination Network (TDN) that aims to embed DGR into a compact code for better discriminating distortion types and learning the relationship between types; b) Fuzzy Prediction Network (FPN) that aims to extract the distributional characteristics of the samples in a DGR and predicts fuzzy degrees based on a Gaussian prior. Experiments show that our GraphIQA achieves the state-of-the-art performance on many benchmark datasets of both synthetic and authentic distortions.

Text-based speech editing (TSE) techniques are designed to enable users to edit the output audio by modifying the input text transcript instead of the audio itself. Despite much progress in neural network-based TSE techniques, the current techniques have focused on reducing the difference between the generated speech segment and the reference target in the editing region, ignoring its local and global fluency in the context and original utterance. To maintain the speech fluency, we propose a fluency speech editing model, termed \textit{FluentEditor}, by considering fluency-aware training criterion in the TSE training. Specifically, the \textit{acoustic consistency constraint} aims to smooth the transition between the edited region and its neighboring acoustic segments consistent with the ground truth, while the \textit{prosody consistency constraint} seeks to ensure that the prosody attributes within the edited regions remain consistent with the overall style of the original utterance. The subjective and objective experimental results on VCTK demonstrate that our \textit{FluentEditor} outperforms all advanced baselines in terms of naturalness and fluency. Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) enables the processing of encrypted data without decrypting it. FHE has garnered significant attention over the past decade as it supports secure outsourcing of data processing to remote cloud services. Despite its promise of strong data privacy and security guarantees, FHE introduces a slowdown of up to five orders of magnitude as compared to the same computation using plaintext data. This overhead is presently a major barrier to the commercial adoption of FHE. In this work, we leverage GPUs to accelerate FHE, capitalizing on a well-established GPU ecosystem available in the cloud. We propose GME, which combines three key microarchitectural extensions along with a compile-time optimization to the current AMD CDNA GPU architecture. First, GME integrates a lightweight on-chip compute unit (CU)-side hierarchical interconnect to retain ciphertext in cache across FHE kernels, thus eliminating redundant memory transactions. Second, to tackle compute bottlenecks, GME introduces special MOD-units that provide native custom hardware support for modular reduction operations, one of the most commonly executed sets of operations in FHE. Third, by integrating the MOD-unit with our novel pipelined $64$-bit integer arithmetic cores (WMAC-units), GME further accelerates FHE workloads by $19\%$. Finally, we propose a Locality-Aware Block Scheduler (LABS) that exploits the temporal locality available in FHE primitive blocks. Incorporating these microarchitectural features and compiler optimizations, we create a synergistic approach achieving average speedups of $796\times$, $14.2\times$, and $2.3\times$ over Intel Xeon CPU, NVIDIA V100 GPU, and Xilinx FPGA implementations, respectively.

We focus on the task of soundscape mapping, which involves predicting the most probable sounds that could be perceived at a particular geographic location. We utilise recent state-of-the-art models to encode geotagged audio, a textual description of the audio, and an overhead image of its capture location using contrastive pre-training. The end result is a shared embedding space for the three modalities, which enables the construction of soundscape maps for any geographic region from textual or audio queries. Using the SoundingEarth dataset, we find that our approach significantly outperforms the existing SOTA, with an improvement of image-to-audio Recall@100 from 0.256 to 0.450. Recommender systems are essential for online applications, and sequential recommendation has enjoyed significant prevalence due to its expressive ability to capture dynamic user interests. However, previous sequential modeling methods still have limitations in capturing contextual information. The primary reason for this issue is that language models often lack an understanding of domain-specific knowledge and item-related textual content. To address this issue, we adopt a new sequential recommendation paradigm and propose LANCER, which leverages the semantic understanding capabilities of pre-trained language models to generate personalized recommendations. Our approach bridges the gap between language models and recommender systems, resulting in more human-like recommendations. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through experiments on several benchmark datasets, showing promising results and providing valuable insights into the influence of our model on sequential recommendation tasks. Furthermore, our experimental codes are publicly available.

Most existing knowledge graphs suffer from incompleteness, which can be alleviated by inferring missing links based on known facts. One popular way to accomplish this is to generate low-dimensional embeddings of entities and relations, and use these to make inferences. ConvE, a recently proposed approach, applies convolutional filters on 2D reshapings of entity and relation embeddings in order to capture rich interactions between their components. However, the number of interactions that ConvE can capture is limited. In this paper, we analyze how increasing the number of these interactions affects link prediction performance, and utilize our observations to propose InteractE. InteractE is based on three key ideas -- feature permutation, a novel feature reshaping, and circular convolution. Through extensive experiments, we find that InteractE outperforms state-of-the-art convolutional link prediction baselines on FB15k-237. Further, InteractE achieves an MRR score that is 9%, 7.5%, and 23% better than ConvE on the FB15k-237, WN18RR and YAGO3-10 datasets respectively. The results validate our central hypothesis -- that increasing feature interaction is beneficial to link prediction performance. We make the source code of InteractE available to encourage reproducible research.

Recommender systems play a crucial role in mitigating the problem of information overload by suggesting users' personalized items or services. The vast majority of traditional recommender systems consider the recommendation procedure as a static process and make recommendations following a fixed strategy. In this paper, we propose a novel recommender system with the capability of continuously improving its strategies during the interactions with users. We model the sequential interactions between users and a recommender system as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) and leverage Reinforcement Learning (RL) to automatically learn the optimal strategies via recommending trial-and-error items and receiving reinforcements of these items from users' feedbacks. In particular, we introduce an online user-agent interacting environment simulator, which can pre-train and evaluate model parameters offline before applying the model online. Moreover, we validate the importance of list-wise recommendations during the interactions between users and agent, and develop a novel approach to incorporate them into the proposed framework LIRD for list-wide recommendations. The experimental results based on a real-world e-commerce dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework.
