Session-based recommendation intends to predict next purchased items based on anonymous behavior sequences. Numerous economic studies have revealed that item price is a key factor influencing user purchase decisions. Unfortunately, existing methods for session-based recommendation only aim at capturing user interest preference, while ignoring user price preference. Actually, there are primarily two challenges preventing us from accessing price preference. Firstly, the price preference is highly associated to various item features (i.e., category and brand), which asks us to mine price preference from heterogeneous information. Secondly, price preference and interest preference are interdependent and collectively determine user choice, necessitating that we jointly consider both price and interest preference for intent modeling. To handle above challenges, we propose a novel approach Bi-Preference Learning Heterogeneous Hypergraph Networks (BiPNet) for session-based recommendation. Specifically, the customized heterogeneous hypergraph networks with a triple-level convolution are devised to capture user price and interest preference from heterogeneous features of items. Besides, we develop a Bi-Preference Learning schema to explore mutual relations between price and interest preference and collectively learn these two preferences under the multi-task learning architecture. Extensive experiments on multiple public datasets confirm the superiority of BiPNet over competitive baselines. Additional research also supports the notion that the price is crucial for the task.

Popular benchmarks for self-supervised LiDAR scene flow (stereoKITTI, and FlyingThings3D) have unrealistic rates of dynamic motion, unrealistic correspondences, and unrealistic sampling patterns. As a result, progress on these benchmarks is misleading and may cause researchers to focus on the wrong problems. We evaluate a suite of top methods on a suite of real-world datasets (Argoverse 2.0, Waymo, and NuScenes) and report several conclusions. First, we find that performance on stereoKITTI is negatively correlated with performance on real-world data. Second, we find that one of this task's key components -- removing the dominant ego-motion -- is better solved by classic ICP than any tested method. Finally, we show that despite the emphasis placed on learning, most performance gains are caused by pre- and post-processing steps: piecewise-rigid refinement and ground removal. We demonstrate this through a baseline method that combines these processing steps with a learning-free test-time flow optimization. This baseline outperforms every evaluated method.

We consider the problem of policy transfer between two Markov Decision Processes (MDPs). We introduce a lemma based on existing theoretical results in reinforcement learning to measure the relativity gap between two arbitrary MDPs, that is the difference between any two cumulative expected returns defined on different policies and environment dynamics. Based on this lemma, we propose two new algorithms referred to as Relative Policy Optimization (RPO) and Relative Transition Optimization (RTO), which offer fast policy transfer and dynamics modelling, respectively. RPO transfers the policy evaluated in one environment to maximize the return in another, while RTO updates the parameterized dynamics model to reduce the gap between the dynamics of the two environments. Integrating the two algorithms results in the complete Relative Policy-Transition Optimization (RPTO) algorithm, in which the policy interacts with the two environments simultaneously, such that data collections from two environments, policy and transition updates are completed in one closed loop to form a principled learning framework for policy transfer. We demonstrate the effectiveness of RPTO on a set of MuJoCo continuous control tasks by creating policy transfer problems via variant dynamics.

The success of Federated Learning (FL) depends on the quantity and quality of the data owners (DOs) as well as their motivation to join FL model training. Reputation-based FL participant selection methods have been proposed. However, they still face the challenges of the cold start problem and potential selection bias towards highly reputable DOs. Such a bias can result in lower reputation DOs being prematurely excluded from future FL training rounds, thereby reducing the diversity of training data and the generalizability of the resulting models. To address these challenges, we propose the Gradual Participant Selection scheme for Auction-based Federated Learning (GPS-AFL). Unlike existing AFL incentive mechanisms which generally assume that all DOs required for an FL task must be selected in one go, GPS-AFL gradually selects the required DOs over multiple rounds of training as more information is revealed through repeated interactions. It is designed to strike a balance between cost saving and performance enhancement, while mitigating the drawbacks of selection bias in reputation-based FL. Extensive experiments based on real-world datasets demonstrate the significant advantages of GPS-AFL, which reduces costs by 33.65% and improved total utility by 2.91%, on average compared to the best-performing state-of-the-art approach.

Privacy policies of websites are often lengthy and intricate. Privacy assistants assist in simplifying policies and making them more accessible and user friendly. The emergence of generative AI (genAI) offers new opportunities to build privacy assistants that can answer users questions about privacy policies. However, genAIs reliability is a concern due to its potential for producing inaccurate information. This study introduces GenAIPABench, a benchmark for evaluating Generative AI-based Privacy Assistants (GenAIPAs). GenAIPABench includes: 1) A set of questions about privacy policies and data protection regulations, with annotated answers for various organizations and regulations; 2) Metrics to assess the accuracy, relevance, and consistency of responses; and 3) A tool for generating prompts to introduce privacy documents and varied privacy questions to test system robustness. We evaluated three leading genAI systems ChatGPT-4, Bard, and Bing AI using GenAIPABench to gauge their effectiveness as GenAIPAs. Our results demonstrate significant promise in genAI capabilities in the privacy domain while also highlighting challenges in managing complex queries, ensuring consistency, and verifying source accuracy.

Causal Structure Learning (CSL), amounting to extracting causal relations among the variables in a dataset, is widely perceived as an important step towards robust and transparent models. Constraint-based CSL leverages conditional independence tests to perform causal discovery. We propose Shapley-PC, a novel method to improve constraint-based CSL algorithms by using Shapley values over the possible conditioning sets to decide which variables are responsible for the observed conditional (in)dependences. We prove soundness and asymptotic consistency and demonstrate that it can outperform state-of-the-art constraint-based, search-based and functional causal model-based methods, according to standard metrics in CSL.

GUI testing is significant in the SE community. Most existing frameworks are intrusive and only support some specific platforms. With the development of distinct scenarios, diverse embedded systems or customized operating systems on different devices do not support existing intrusive GUI testing frameworks. Some approaches adopt robotic arms to replace the interface invoking of mobile apps under test and use computer vision technologies to identify GUI elements. However, some challenges are unsolved. First, existing approaches assume that GUI screens are fixed so that they cannot be adapted to diverse systems with different screen conditions. Second, existing approaches use XY-plane robotic arms, which cannot flexibly simulate testing operations. Third, existing approaches ignore compatibility bugs and only focus on crash bugs. A more practical approach is required for the non-intrusive scenario. We propose a practical non-intrusive GUI testing framework with visual robotic arms. RoboTest integrates novel GUI screen and widget detection algorithms, adaptive to detecting screens of different sizes and then to extracting GUI widgets from the detected screens. Then, a set of testing operations is applied with a 4-DOF robotic arm, which effectively and flexibly simulates human testing operations. During app exploration, RoboTest integrates the Principle of Proximity-guided exploration strategy, choosing close widgets of the previous targets to reduce robotic arm movement overhead and improve exploration efficiency. RoboTest can effectively detect some compatibility bugs beyond crash bugs with a GUI comparison on different devices of the same test operations. We evaluate RoboTest with 20 mobile apps, with a case study on an embedded system. The results show that RoboTest can effectively, efficiently, and generally explore AUTs to find bugs and reduce exploration time overhead.

Multi-modal aspect-based sentiment analysis (MABSA) has recently attracted increasing attention. The span-based extraction methods, such as FSUIE, demonstrate strong performance in sentiment analysis due to their joint modeling of input sequences and target labels. However, previous methods still have certain limitations: (i) They ignore the difference in the focus of visual information between different analysis targets (aspect or sentiment). (ii) Combining features from uni-modal encoders directly may not be sufficient to eliminate the modal gap and can cause difficulties in capturing the image-text pairwise relevance. (iii) Existing span-based methods for MABSA ignore the pairwise relevance of target span boundaries. To tackle these limitations, we propose a novel framework called DQPSA for multi-modal sentiment analysis. Specifically, our model contains a Prompt as Dual Query (PDQ) module that uses the prompt as both a visual query and a language query to extract prompt-aware visual information and strengthen the pairwise relevance between visual information and the analysis target. Additionally, we introduce an Energy-based Pairwise Expert (EPE) module that models the boundaries pairing of the analysis target from the perspective of an Energy-based Model. This expert predicts aspect or sentiment span based on pairwise stability. Experiments on three widely used benchmarks demonstrate that DQPSA outperforms previous approaches and achieves a new state-of-the-art performance.

Defensive deception is a promising approach for cyberdefense. Although defensive deception is increasingly popular in the research community, there has not been a systematic investigation of its key components, the underlying principles, and its tradeoffs in various problem settings. This survey paper focuses on defensive deception research centered on game theory and machine learning, since these are prominent families of artificial intelligence approaches that are widely employed in defensive deception. This paper brings forth insights, lessons, and limitations from prior work. It closes with an outline of some research directions to tackle major gaps in current defensive deception research.

Recently, ensemble has been applied to deep metric learning to yield state-of-the-art results. Deep metric learning aims to learn deep neural networks for feature embeddings, distances of which satisfy given constraint. In deep metric learning, ensemble takes average of distances learned by multiple learners. As one important aspect of ensemble, the learners should be diverse in their feature embeddings. To this end, we propose an attention-based ensemble, which uses multiple attention masks, so that each learner can attend to different parts of the object. We also propose a divergence loss, which encourages diversity among the learners. The proposed method is applied to the standard benchmarks of deep metric learning and experimental results show that it outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by a significant margin on image retrieval tasks.

Attention mechanism has been used as an ancillary means to help RNN or CNN. However, the Transformer (Vaswani et al., 2017) recently recorded the state-of-the-art performance in machine translation with a dramatic reduction in training time by solely using attention. Motivated by the Transformer, Directional Self Attention Network (Shen et al., 2017), a fully attention-based sentence encoder, was proposed. It showed good performance with various data by using forward and backward directional information in a sentence. But in their study, not considered at all was the distance between words, an important feature when learning the local dependency to help understand the context of input text. We propose Distance-based Self-Attention Network, which considers the word distance by using a simple distance mask in order to model the local dependency without losing the ability of modeling global dependency which attention has inherent. Our model shows good performance with NLI data, and it records the new state-of-the-art result with SNLI data. Additionally, we show that our model has a strength in long sentences or documents.
