We present ASPIRO, an approach for structured data verbalisation into short template sentences in zero to few-shot settings. Unlike previous methods, our approach prompts large language models (LLMs) to directly produce entity-agnostic templates, rather than relying on LLMs to faithfully copy the given example entities, or validating/crafting the templates manually. We incorporate LLM re-prompting, triggered by algorithmic parsing checks, as well as the PARENT metric induced consistency validation to identify and rectify template generation problems in real-time. ASPIRO, compared to direct LLM output, averages 66\% parsing error rate reduction in generated verbalisations of RDF triples on the DART dataset. Our best 5-shot text-davinci-003 setup, scoring BLEU of 50.62, METEOR of 45.16, BLEURT of 0.82, NUBIA of 0.87, and PARENT of 0.8962 on the Rel2Text dataset, competes effectively with recent fine-tuned pre-trained language models.
This paper addresses the growing interest in deploying deep learning models directly in-sensor. We present "Q-Segment", a quantized real-time segmentation algorithm, and conduct a comprehensive evaluation on two low-power edge vision platforms, namely Sony IMX500, which has an in-sensors processor, and Sony Spresense, a low-power multi-core ARM Cortex-M microcontroller. One of the main goals of the model is to achieve end-to-end image segmentation for vessel-based medical diagnosis. Deployed on the IMX500 platform, Q-Segment achieves ultra-low inference time in-sensor of only 1.9 ms and energy consumption of only 5.7 mJ. We compare the proposed network with outperforming existing networks on various platforms by a factor of 75x (compared to ERFNet). The network architecture employs an encoder-decoder structure with skip connections, and results in a binary accuracy of 97.25% and an Area Under the Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve (AUC) of 96.97% on the CHASE dataset. This research contributes valuable insights into edge-based image segmentation, laying the foundation for efficient algorithms tailored to low-power environments.
Text-to-image diffusion models (SD) exhibit significant advancements while requiring extensive computational resources. Though many acceleration methods have been proposed, they suffer from generation quality degradation or extra training cost generalizing to new fine-tuned models. To address these limitations, we propose a novel and universal Stable-Diffusion (SD) acceleration module called SpeedUpNet(SUN). SUN can be directly plugged into various fine-tuned SD models without extra training. This technique utilizes cross-attention layers to learn the relative offsets in the generated image results between negative and positive prompts achieving classifier-free guidance distillation with negative prompts controllable, and introduces a Multi-Step Consistency (MSC) loss to ensure a harmonious balance between reducing inference steps and maintaining consistency in the generated output. Consequently, SUN significantly reduces the number of inference steps to just 4 steps and eliminates the need for classifier-free guidance. It leads to an overall speedup of more than 10 times for SD models compared to the state-of-the-art 25-step DPM-solver++, and offers two extra advantages: (1) classifier-free guidance distillation with controllable negative prompts and (2) seamless integration into various fine-tuned Stable-Diffusion models without training. Most of the current speech data augmentation methods operate on either the raw waveform or the amplitude spectrum of speech. In this paper, we propose a novel speech data augmentation method called PhasePerturbation that operates dynamically on the phase spectrum of speech. Instead of statically rotating a phase by a constant degree, PhasePerturbation utilizes three dynamic phase spectrum operations, i.e., a randomization operation, a frequency masking operation, and a temporal masking operation, to enhance the diversity of speech data. We conduct experiments on wav2vec2.0 pre-trained ASR models by fine-tuning them with the PhasePerturbation augmented TIMIT corpus. The experimental results demonstrate 10.9\% relative reduction in the word error rate (WER) compared with the baseline model fine-tuned without any augmentation operation. Furthermore, the proposed method achieves additional improvements (12.9\% and 15.9\%) in WER by complementing the Vocal Tract Length Perturbation (VTLP) and the SpecAug, which are both amplitude spectrum-based augmentation methods. The results highlight the capability of PhasePerturbation to improve the current amplitude spectrum-based augmentation methods.
Recent temporal LiDAR-based 3D object detectors achieve promising performance based on the two-stage proposal-based approach. They generate 3D box candidates from the first-stage dense detector, followed by different temporal aggregation methods. However, these approaches require per-frame objects or whole point clouds, posing challenges related to memory bank utilization. Moreover, point clouds and trajectory features are combined solely based on concatenation, which may neglect effective interactions between them. In this paper, we propose a point-trajectory transformer with long short-term memory for efficient temporal 3D object detection. To this end, we only utilize point clouds of current-frame objects and their historical trajectories as input to minimize the memory bank storage requirement. Furthermore, we introduce modules to encode trajectory features, focusing on long short-term and future-aware perspectives, and then effectively aggregate them with point cloud features. We conduct extensive experiments on the large-scale Waymo dataset to demonstrate that our approach performs well against state-of-the-art methods. Air-bearing platforms for simulating the rotational dynamics of satellites require highly precise ground truth systems. Unfortunately, commercial motion capture systems used for this scope are complex and expensive. This paper shows a novel and versatile method to compute the attitude of rotational air-bearing platforms using a monocular camera and sets of fiducial markers. The work proposes a geometry-based iterative algorithm that is significantly more accurate than other literature methods that involve the solution of the Perspective-n-Point problem. Additionally, auto-calibration procedures to perform a preliminary estimation of the system parameters are shown. The developed methodology is deployed onto a Raspberry Pi 4 micro-computer and tested with a set of LED markers. Data obtained with this setup are compared against computer simulations of the same system to understand and validate the attitude estimation performances. Simulation results show expected 1-sigma accuracies in the order of $\sim$ 12 arcsec and $\sim$ 37 arcsec for about- and cross-boresight rotations of the platform, and average latency times of 6 ms.
Recently, end-to-end neural diarization (EEND) is introduced and achieves promising results in speaker-overlapped scenarios. In EEND, speaker diarization is formulated as a multi-label prediction problem, where speaker activities are estimated independently and their dependency are not well considered. To overcome these disadvantages, we employ the power set encoding to reformulate speaker diarization as a single-label classification problem and propose the overlap-aware EEND (EEND-OLA) model, in which speaker overlaps and dependency can be modeled explicitly. Inspired by the success of two-stage hybrid systems, we further propose a novel Two-stage OverLap-aware Diarization framework (TOLD) by involving a speaker overlap-aware post-processing (SOAP) model to iteratively refine the diarization results of EEND-OLA. Experimental results show that, compared with the original EEND, the proposed EEND-OLA achieves a 14.39% relative improvement in terms of diarization error rates (DER), and utilizing SOAP provides another 19.33% relative improvement. As a result, our method TOLD achieves a DER of 10.14% on the CALLHOME dataset, which is a new state-of-the-art result on this benchmark to the best of our knowledge.
It is a long-lasting goal to design an embodied system that can solve long-horizon open-world tasks in human-like ways. However, existing approaches usually struggle with compound difficulties caused by the logic-aware decomposition and context-aware execution of these tasks. To this end, we introduce MP5, an open-ended multimodal embodied system built upon the challenging Minecraft simulator, which can decompose feasible sub-objectives, design sophisticated situation-aware plans, and perform embodied action control, with frequent communication with a goal-conditioned active perception scheme. Specifically, MP5 is developed on top of recent advances in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs), and the system is modulated into functional modules that can be scheduled and collaborated to ultimately solve pre-defined context- and process-dependent tasks. Extensive experiments prove that MP5 can achieve a 22% success rate on difficult process-dependent tasks and a 91% success rate on tasks that heavily depend on the context. Moreover, MP5 exhibits a remarkable ability to address many open-ended tasks that are entirely novel.
We address the problem of modifying a given well-designed 2D sewing pattern to accommodate garment edits in the 3D space. Existing methods usually adjust the sewing pattern by applying uniform flattening to the 3D garment. The problems are twofold: first, it ignores local scaling of the 2D sewing pattern such as shrinking ribs of cuffs; second, it does not respect the implicit design rules and conventions of the industry, such as the use of straight edges for simplicity and precision in sewing. To address those problems, we present a pattern adjustment method that considers the non-uniform local scaling of the 2D sewing pattern by utilizing the intrinsic scale matrix. In addition, we preserve the original boundary shape by an as-similar-as-possible geometric constraint when desirable. We build a prototype with a set of commonly used alteration operations and showcase the capability of our method via a number of alteration examples throughout the paper.
With the urgent demand for generalized deep models, many pre-trained big models are proposed, such as BERT, ViT, GPT, etc. Inspired by the success of these models in single domains (like computer vision and natural language processing), the multi-modal pre-trained big models have also drawn more and more attention in recent years. In this work, we give a comprehensive survey of these models and hope this paper could provide new insights and helps fresh researchers to track the most cutting-edge works. Specifically, we firstly introduce the background of multi-modal pre-training by reviewing the conventional deep learning, pre-training works in natural language process, computer vision, and speech. Then, we introduce the task definition, key challenges, and advantages of multi-modal pre-training models (MM-PTMs), and discuss the MM-PTMs with a focus on data, objectives, network architectures, and knowledge enhanced pre-training. After that, we introduce the downstream tasks used for the validation of large-scale MM-PTMs, including generative, classification, and regression tasks. We also give visualization and analysis of the model parameters and results on representative downstream tasks. Finally, we point out possible research directions for this topic that may benefit future works. Many real-world applications require the prediction of long sequence time-series, such as electricity consumption planning. Long sequence time-series forecasting (LSTF) demands a high prediction capacity of the model, which is the ability to capture precise long-range dependency coupling between output and input efficiently. Recent studies have shown the potential of Transformer to increase the prediction capacity. However, there are several severe issues with Transformer that prevent it from being directly applicable to LSTF, such as quadratic time complexity, high memory usage, and inherent limitation of the encoder-decoder architecture. To address these issues, we design an efficient transformer-based model for LSTF, named Informer, with three distinctive characteristics: (i) a $ProbSparse$ Self-attention mechanism, which achieves $O(L \log L)$ in time complexity and memory usage, and has comparable performance on sequences' dependency alignment. (ii) the self-attention distilling highlights dominating attention by halving cascading layer input, and efficiently handles extreme long input sequences. (iii) the generative style decoder, while conceptually simple, predicts the long time-series sequences at one forward operation rather than a step-by-step way, which drastically improves the inference speed of long-sequence predictions. Extensive experiments on four large-scale datasets demonstrate that Informer significantly outperforms existing methods and provides a new solution to the LSTF problem.
