High data rates are one of the most prevalent requirements in current mobile communications. To cover this and other high standards regarding performance, increasing coverage, capacity, and reliability, numerous works have proposed the development of systems employing the combination of several techniques such as Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) wireless technologies with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in the evolving 4G wireless communications. Our proposed system is based on the 2x2 MIMO antenna technique, which is defined to enhance the performance of radio communication systems in terms of capacity and spectral efficiency, and the OFDM technique, which can be implemented using two types of sub-carrier mapping modes: Space-Time Block Coding and Space Frequency Block Code. SFBC has been considered in our developed model. The main advantage of SFBC over STBC is that SFBC encodes two modulated symbols over two subcarriers of the same OFDM symbol, whereas STBC encodes two modulated symbols over two subcarriers of the same OFDM symbol; thus, the coding is performed in the frequency domain. Our solution aims to demonstrate the performance analysis of the Space Frequency Block Codes scheme, increasing the Signal Noise Ratio (SNR) at the receiver and decreasing the Bit Error Rate (BER) through the use of 4 QAM, 16 QAM and 64QAM modulation over a 2x2 MIMO channel for an LTE downlink transmission, in different channel radio environments. In this work, an analytical tool to evaluate the performance of SFBC - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing, using two transmit antennas and two receive antennas has been implemented, and the analysis using the average SNR has been considered as a sufficient statistic to describe the performance of SFBC in the 3GPP Long Term Evolution system over Multiple Input Multiple Output channels.

Hence, modern networks are handcrafted to handle well-known invariances (ex. translations). We propose a framework to learn novel network architectures that capture data-dependent invariances via pruning. Our learned architectures consistently outperform dense neural networks on both vision and tabular datasets in both efficiency and effectiveness. Spatial-temporal data contains rich information and has been widely studied in recent years due to the rapid development of relevant applications in many fields. For instance, medical institutions often use electrodes attached to different parts of a patient to analyse the electorencephal data rich with spatial and temporal features for health assessment and disease diagnosis. Existing research has mainly used deep learning techniques such as convolutional neural network (CNN) or recurrent neural network (RNN) to extract hidden spatial-temporal features. Yet, it is challenging to incorporate both inter-dependencies spatial information and dynamic temporal changes simultaneously. In reality, for a model that leverages these spatial-temporal features to fulfil complex prediction tasks, it often requires a colossal amount of training data in order to obtain satisfactory model performance. Considering the above-mentioned challenges, we propose an adaptive federated relevance framework, namely FedRel, for spatial-temporal graph learning in this paper. After transforming the raw spatial-temporal data into high quality features, the core Dynamic Inter-Intra Graph (DIIG) module in the framework is able to use these features to generate the spatial-temporal graphs capable of capturing the hidden topological and long-term temporal correlation information in these graphs. To improve the model generalization ability and performance while preserving the local data privacy, we also design a relevance-driven federated learning module in our framework to leverage diverse data distributions from different participants with attentive aggregations of their models.

The large number of antennas in massive MIMO systems allows the base station to communicate with multiple users at the same time and frequency resource with multi-user beamforming. However, highly correlated user channels could drastically impede the spectral efficiency that multi-user beamforming can achieve. As such, it is critical for the base station to schedule a suitable group of users in each time and frequency resource block to achieve maximum spectral efficiency while adhering to fairness constraints among the users. In this paper, we consider the resource scheduling problem for massive MIMO systems with its optimal solution known to be NP-hard. Inspired by recent achievements in deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve problems with large action sets, we propose \name{}, a dynamic scheduler for massive MIMO based on the state-of-the-art Soft Actor-Critic (SAC) DRL model and the K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN) algorithm. Through comprehensive simulations using realistic massive MIMO channel models as well as real-world datasets from channel measurement experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed model in various channel conditions. Our results show that our proposed model performs very close to the optimal proportionally fair (Opt-PF) scheduler in terms of spectral efficiency and fairness with more than one order of magnitude lower computational complexity in medium network sizes where Opt-PF is computationally feasible. Our results also show the feasibility and high performance of our proposed scheduler in networks with a large number of users and resource blocks.

The demand for efficient processing of deep neural networks (DNNs) on embedded devices is a significant challenge limiting their deployment. Exploiting sparsity in the network's feature maps is one of the ways to reduce its inference latency. It is known that unstructured sparsity results in lower accuracy degradation with respect to structured sparsity but the former needs extensive inference engine changes to get latency benefits. To tackle this challenge, we propose a solution to induce semi-structured activation sparsity exploitable through minor runtime modifications. To attain high speedup levels at inference time, we design a sparse training procedure with awareness of the final position of the activations while computing the General Matrix Multiplication (GEMM). We extensively evaluate the proposed solution across various models for image classification and object detection tasks. Remarkably, our approach yields a speed improvement of $1.25 \times$ with a minimal accuracy drop of $1.1\%$ for the ResNet18 model on the ImageNet dataset. Furthermore, when combined with a state-of-the-art structured pruning method, the resulting models provide a good latency-accuracy trade-off, outperforming models that solely employ structured pruning techniques.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) have demonstrated a significant boost in prediction performance on graph data. At the same time, the predictions made by these models are often hard to interpret. In that regard, many efforts have been made to explain the prediction mechanisms of these models from perspectives such as GNNExplainer, XGNN and PGExplainer. Although such works present systematic frameworks to interpret GNNs, a holistic review for explainable GNNs is unavailable. In this survey, we present a comprehensive review of explainability techniques developed for GNNs. We focus on explainable graph neural networks and categorize them based on the use of explainable methods. We further provide the common performance metrics for GNNs explanations and point out several future research directions.

Graph neural networks (GNNs) is widely used to learn a powerful representation of graph-structured data. Recent work demonstrates that transferring knowledge from self-supervised tasks to downstream tasks could further improve graph representation. However, there is an inherent gap between self-supervised tasks and downstream tasks in terms of optimization objective and training data. Conventional pre-training methods may be not effective enough on knowledge transfer since they do not make any adaptation for downstream tasks. To solve such problems, we propose a new transfer learning paradigm on GNNs which could effectively leverage self-supervised tasks as auxiliary tasks to help the target task. Our methods would adaptively select and combine different auxiliary tasks with the target task in the fine-tuning stage. We design an adaptive auxiliary loss weighting model to learn the weights of auxiliary tasks by quantifying the consistency between auxiliary tasks and the target task. In addition, we learn the weighting model through meta-learning. Our methods can be applied to various transfer learning approaches, it performs well not only in multi-task learning but also in pre-training and fine-tuning. Comprehensive experiments on multiple downstream tasks demonstrate that the proposed methods can effectively combine auxiliary tasks with the target task and significantly improve the performance compared to state-of-the-art methods.

Vast amount of data generated from networks of sensors, wearables, and the Internet of Things (IoT) devices underscores the need for advanced modeling techniques that leverage the spatio-temporal structure of decentralized data due to the need for edge computation and licensing (data access) issues. While federated learning (FL) has emerged as a framework for model training without requiring direct data sharing and exchange, effectively modeling the complex spatio-temporal dependencies to improve forecasting capabilities still remains an open problem. On the other hand, state-of-the-art spatio-temporal forecasting models assume unfettered access to the data, neglecting constraints on data sharing. To bridge this gap, we propose a federated spatio-temporal model -- Cross-Node Federated Graph Neural Network (CNFGNN) -- which explicitly encodes the underlying graph structure using graph neural network (GNN)-based architecture under the constraint of cross-node federated learning, which requires that data in a network of nodes is generated locally on each node and remains decentralized. CNFGNN operates by disentangling the temporal dynamics modeling on devices and spatial dynamics on the server, utilizing alternating optimization to reduce the communication cost, facilitating computations on the edge devices. Experiments on the traffic flow forecasting task show that CNFGNN achieves the best forecasting performance in both transductive and inductive learning settings with no extra computation cost on edge devices, while incurring modest communication cost.

Recommender systems play a fundamental role in web applications in filtering massive information and matching user interests. While many efforts have been devoted to developing more effective models in various scenarios, the exploration on the explainability of recommender systems is running behind. Explanations could help improve user experience and discover system defects. In this paper, after formally introducing the elements that are related to model explainability, we propose a novel explainable recommendation model through improving the transparency of the representation learning process. Specifically, to overcome the representation entangling problem in traditional models, we revise traditional graph convolution to discriminate information from different layers. Also, each representation vector is factorized into several segments, where each segment relates to one semantic aspect in data. Different from previous work, in our model, factor discovery and representation learning are simultaneously conducted, and we are able to handle extra attribute information and knowledge. In this way, the proposed model can learn interpretable and meaningful representations for users and items. Unlike traditional methods that need to make a trade-off between explainability and effectiveness, the performance of our proposed explainable model is not negatively affected after considering explainability. Finally, comprehensive experiments are conducted to validate the performance of our model as well as explanation faithfulness.

Modern neural network training relies heavily on data augmentation for improved generalization. After the initial success of label-preserving augmentations, there has been a recent surge of interest in label-perturbing approaches, which combine features and labels across training samples to smooth the learned decision surface. In this paper, we propose a new augmentation method that leverages the first and second moments extracted and re-injected by feature normalization. We replace the moments of the learned features of one training image by those of another, and also interpolate the target labels. As our approach is fast, operates entirely in feature space, and mixes different signals than prior methods, one can effectively combine it with existing augmentation methods. We demonstrate its efficacy across benchmark data sets in computer vision, speech, and natural language processing, where it consistently improves the generalization performance of highly competitive baseline networks.
