Over the years, RDF streaming was explored in research and practice from many angles, resulting in a wide range of RDF stream definitions. This variety presents a major challenge in discussing and integrating streaming solutions, due to the lack of a common language. This work attempts to address this critical research gap, by systematizing RDF stream types present in the literature in a novel taxonomy. The proposed RDF Stream Taxonomy (RDF-STaX) is embodied in an OWL 2 DL ontology that follows the FAIR principles, making it readily applicable in practice. Extensive documentation and additional resources are provided, to foster the adoption of the ontology. Two realized use cases are presented, demonstrating the usefulness of the resource in discussing research works and annotating streaming datasets. Another result of this contribution is the novel nanopublications dataset, which serves as a collaborative, living state-of-the-art review of RDF streaming. The aim of RDF-STaX is to address a real need of the community for a better way to systematize and describe RDF streams. The resource is designed to help drive innovation in RDF streaming, by fostering scientific discussion, cooperation, and tool interoperability.

Recently, foundational models such as CLIP and SAM have shown promising performance for the task of Zero-Shot Anomaly Segmentation (ZSAS). However, either CLIP-based or SAM-based ZSAS methods still suffer from non-negligible key drawbacks: 1) CLIP primarily focuses on global feature alignment across different inputs, leading to imprecise segmentation of local anomalous parts; 2) SAM tends to generate numerous redundant masks without proper prompt constraints, resulting in complex post-processing requirements. In this work, we innovatively propose a CLIP and SAM collaboration framework called ClipSAM for ZSAS. The insight behind ClipSAM is to employ CLIP's semantic understanding capability for anomaly localization and rough segmentation, which is further used as the prompt constraints for SAM to refine the anomaly segmentation results. In details, we introduce a crucial Unified Multi-scale Cross-modal Interaction (UMCI) module for interacting language with visual features at multiple scales of CLIP to reason anomaly positions. Then, we design a novel Multi-level Mask Refinement (MMR) module, which utilizes the positional information as multi-level prompts for SAM to acquire hierarchical levels of masks and merges them. Extensive experiments validate the effectiveness of our approach, achieving the optimal segmentation performance on the MVTec-AD and VisA datasets.

Digital circuits, despite having been studied for nearly a century and used at scale for about half that time, have until recently evaded a fully compositional theoretical understanding, in which arbitrary circuits may be freely composed together without consulting their internals. Recent work remedied this theoretical shortcoming by showing how digital circuits can be presented compositionally as morphisms in a freely generated symmetric traced category. However, this was done informally; in this paper we refine and expand the previous work in several ways, culminating in the presentation of three sound and complete semantics for digital circuits: denotational, operational and algebraic. For the denotational semantics, we establish a correspondence between stream functions with certain properties and circuits constructed syntactically. For the operational semantics, we present the reductions required to model how a circuit processes a value, including the addition of a new reduction for eliminating non-delay-guarded feedback; this leads to an adequate notion of observational equivalence for digital circuits. Finally, we define a new family of equations for translating circuits into bisimilar circuits of a 'normal form', leading to a complete algebraic semantics for sequential circuits

Target speaker extraction (TSE) aims to extract the target speaker's voice from the input mixture. Previous studies have concentrated on high-overlapping scenarios. However, real-world applications usually meet more complex scenarios like variable speaker overlapping and target speaker absence. In this paper, we introduces a framework to perform continuous TSE (C-TSE), comprising a target speaker voice activation detection (TSVAD) and a TSE model. This framework significantly improves TSE performance on similar speakers and enhances personalization, which is lacking in traditional diarization methods. In detail, unlike conventional TSVAD deployed to refine the diarization results, the proposed Attention-target speaker voice activation detection (A-TSVAD) directly generates timestamps of the target speaker. We also explore some different integration methods of A-TSVAD and TSE by comparing the cascaded and parallel methods. The framework's effectiveness is assessed using a range of metrics, including diarization and enhancement metrics. Our experiments demonstrate that A-TSVAD outperforms conventional methods in reducing diarization errors. Furthermore, the integration of A-TSVAD and TSE in a sequential cascaded manner further enhances extraction accuracy.

In the realm of recommender systems, handling noisy implicit feedback is a prevalent challenge. While most research efforts focus on mitigating noise through data cleaning methods like resampling and reweighting, these approaches often rely on heuristic assumptions. Alternatively, model perspective denoising strategies actively incorporate noise into user-item interactions, aiming to bolster the model's inherent denoising capabilities. Nonetheless, this type of denoising method presents substantial challenges to the capacity of the recommender model to accurately identify and represent noise patterns. To overcome these hurdles, we introduce a plug-in diffusion model for embedding denoising in recommendation system, which employs a multi-step denoising approach based on diffusion models to foster robust representation learning of embeddings. Our model operates by introducing controlled Gaussian noise into user and item embeddings derived from various recommender systems during the forward phase. Subsequently, it iteratively eliminates this noise in the reverse denoising phase, thereby augmenting the embeddings' resilience to noisy feedback. The primary challenge in this process is determining direction and an optimal starting point for the denoising process. To address this, we incorporate a specialized denoising module that utilizes collaborative data as a guide for the denoising process. Furthermore, during the inference phase, we employ the average of item embeddings previously favored by users as the starting point to facilitate ideal item generation. Our thorough evaluations across three datasets and in conjunction with three classic backend models confirm its superior performance.

Automatic speech recognition (ASR) outcomes serve as input for downstream tasks, substantially impacting the satisfaction level of end-users. Hence, the diagnosis and enhancement of the vulnerabilities present in the ASR model bear significant importance. However, traditional evaluation methodologies of ASR systems generate a singular, composite quantitative metric, which fails to provide comprehensive insight into specific vulnerabilities. This lack of detail extends to the post-processing stage, resulting in further obfuscation of potential weaknesses. Despite an ASR model's ability to recognize utterances accurately, subpar readability can negatively affect user satisfaction, giving rise to a trade-off between recognition accuracy and user-friendliness. To effectively address this, it is imperative to consider both the speech-level, crucial for recognition accuracy, and the text-level, critical for user-friendliness. Consequently, we propose the development of an Error Explainable Benchmark (EEB) dataset. This dataset, while considering both speech- and text-level, enables a granular understanding of the model's shortcomings. Our proposition provides a structured pathway for a more `real-world-centric' evaluation, a marked shift away from abstracted, traditional methods, allowing for the detection and rectification of nuanced system weaknesses, ultimately aiming for an improved user experience.

As one of the most popular dynamic languages, Python experiences a decrease in readability and maintainability when code smells are present. Recent advancements in Large Language Models have sparked growing interest in AI-enabled tools for both code generation and refactoring. GitHub Copilot is one such tool that has gained widespread usage. Copilot Chat, released on September 2023, functions as an interactive tool aims at facilitating natural language-powered coding. However, limited attention has been given to understanding code smells in Copilot-generated Python code and Copilot's ability to fix the code smells it generates. To this end, we built a dataset comprising 102 code smells in Copilot-generated Python code. Our aim is to first explore the occurrence of code smells in Copilot-generated Python code and then evaluate the effectiveness of Copilot in fixing these code smells employing different prompts. The results show that 8 out of 10 types of Python smells can be detected in Copilot-generated Python code, among which Multiply-Nested Container is the most common one. For these code smells, Copilot Chat achieves a highest fixing rate of 87.1%, showing promise in fixing Python code smells generated by Copilot itself. Besides, the effectiveness of Copilot Chat in fixing these smells can be improved with the provision of more detailed prompts. However, using Copilot Chat to fix these smells might introduce new code smells.

Denoising diffusion models represent a recent emerging topic in computer vision, demonstrating remarkable results in the area of generative modeling. A diffusion model is a deep generative model that is based on two stages, a forward diffusion stage and a reverse diffusion stage. In the forward diffusion stage, the input data is gradually perturbed over several steps by adding Gaussian noise. In the reverse stage, a model is tasked at recovering the original input data by learning to gradually reverse the diffusion process, step by step. Diffusion models are widely appreciated for the quality and diversity of the generated samples, despite their known computational burdens, i.e. low speeds due to the high number of steps involved during sampling. In this survey, we provide a comprehensive review of articles on denoising diffusion models applied in vision, comprising both theoretical and practical contributions in the field. First, we identify and present three generic diffusion modeling frameworks, which are based on denoising diffusion probabilistic models, noise conditioned score networks, and stochastic differential equations. We further discuss the relations between diffusion models and other deep generative models, including variational auto-encoders, generative adversarial networks, energy-based models, autoregressive models and normalizing flows. Then, we introduce a multi-perspective categorization of diffusion models applied in computer vision. Finally, we illustrate the current limitations of diffusion models and envision some interesting directions for future research.

A fundamental goal of scientific research is to learn about causal relationships. However, despite its critical role in the life and social sciences, causality has not had the same importance in Natural Language Processing (NLP), which has traditionally placed more emphasis on predictive tasks. This distinction is beginning to fade, with an emerging area of interdisciplinary research at the convergence of causal inference and language processing. Still, research on causality in NLP remains scattered across domains without unified definitions, benchmark datasets and clear articulations of the remaining challenges. In this survey, we consolidate research across academic areas and situate it in the broader NLP landscape. We introduce the statistical challenge of estimating causal effects, encompassing settings where text is used as an outcome, treatment, or as a means to address confounding. In addition, we explore potential uses of causal inference to improve the performance, robustness, fairness, and interpretability of NLP models. We thus provide a unified overview of causal inference for the computational linguistics community.

Images can convey rich semantics and induce various emotions in viewers. Recently, with the rapid advancement of emotional intelligence and the explosive growth of visual data, extensive research efforts have been dedicated to affective image content analysis (AICA). In this survey, we will comprehensively review the development of AICA in the recent two decades, especially focusing on the state-of-the-art methods with respect to three main challenges -- the affective gap, perception subjectivity, and label noise and absence. We begin with an introduction to the key emotion representation models that have been widely employed in AICA and description of available datasets for performing evaluation with quantitative comparison of label noise and dataset bias. We then summarize and compare the representative approaches on (1) emotion feature extraction, including both handcrafted and deep features, (2) learning methods on dominant emotion recognition, personalized emotion prediction, emotion distribution learning, and learning from noisy data or few labels, and (3) AICA based applications. Finally, we discuss some challenges and promising research directions in the future, such as image content and context understanding, group emotion clustering, and viewer-image interaction.

We study the problem of efficient semantic segmentation for large-scale 3D point clouds. By relying on expensive sampling techniques or computationally heavy pre/post-processing steps, most existing approaches are only able to be trained and operate over small-scale point clouds. In this paper, we introduce RandLA-Net, an efficient and lightweight neural architecture to directly infer per-point semantics for large-scale point clouds. The key to our approach is to use random point sampling instead of more complex point selection approaches. Although remarkably computation and memory efficient, random sampling can discard key features by chance. To overcome this, we introduce a novel local feature aggregation module to progressively increase the receptive field for each 3D point, thereby effectively preserving geometric details. Extensive experiments show that our RandLA-Net can process 1 million points in a single pass with up to 200X faster than existing approaches. Moreover, our RandLA-Net clearly surpasses state-of-the-art approaches for semantic segmentation on two large-scale benchmarks Semantic3D and SemanticKITTI.
