Accurately predicting lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) lifespan is pivotal for optimizing usage and preventing accidents. Previous approaches often relied on inputs challenging to measure in real-time, and failed to capture intra- and inter-cycle data patterns simultaneously. Our study employ attention mechanisms (AM) to develop data-driven models predicting LIB lifespan using easily measurable inputs. Developed model integrates recurrent neural network and convolutional neural network, featuring two types of AMs: temporal attention (TA) and cyclic attention (CA). TA identifies important time steps within each cycle, CA strives to capture key features of inter-cycle correlations through self-attention (SA). We apply the developed model to publicly available data consisting of three batches of cycling modes. TA scores highlight the rest phase as a key characteristic to distinguish different batches. By leveraging CA scores, we decreased the input dimension from 100 cycles to 50 and 30 cycles with single- and multi-head attention.

Emulating chip functionality before silicon production is crucial, especially with the increasing prevalence of RISC-V-based designs. FPGAs are promising candidates for such purposes due to their high-speed and reconfigurable architecture. In this paper, we introduce our Makinote, an FPGA-based Cluster platform, hosted at Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), which is composed of a large number of FPGAs (in total 96 AMD/Xilinx Alveo U55c) to emulate massive size RTL designs (up to 750M ASIC cells). In addition, we introduce our FPGA shell as a powerful tool to facilitate the utilization of such a large FPGA cluster with minimal effort needed by the designers. The proposed FPGA shell provides an easy-to-use interface for the RTL developers to rapidly port such design into several FPGAs by automatically connecting to the necessary ports, e.g., PCIe Gen4, DRAM (DDR4 and HBM), ETH10g/100g. Moreover, specific drivers for exploiting RISC-V based architectures are provided within the set of tools associated with the FPGA shell. We release the tool online for further extensions. We validate the efficiency of our hardware platform (i.e., FPGA cluster) and the software tool (i.e., FPGA Shell) by emulating a RISC-V processor and experimenting HPC Challenge application running on 32 FPGAs. Our results demonstrate that the performance improves by 8 times over the single-FPGA case.

Reconstructing natural speech from neural activity is vital for enabling direct communication via brain-computer interfaces. Previous efforts have explored the conversion of neural recordings into speech using complex deep neural network (DNN) models trained on extensive neural recording data, which is resource-intensive under regular clinical constraints. However, achieving satisfactory performance in reconstructing speech from limited-scale neural recordings has been challenging, mainly due to the complexity of speech representations and the neural data constraints. To overcome these challenges, we propose a novel transfer learning framework for neural-driven speech reconstruction, called Neural2Speech, which consists of two distinct training phases. First, a speech autoencoder is pre-trained on readily available speech corpora to decode speech waveforms from the encoded speech representations. Second, a lightweight adaptor is trained on the small-scale neural recordings to align the neural activity and the speech representation for decoding. Remarkably, our proposed Neural2Speech demonstrates the feasibility of neural-driven speech reconstruction even with only 20 minutes of intracranial data, which significantly outperforms existing baseline methods in terms of speech fidelity and intelligibility.

Reducing hallucination of Large Language Models (LLMs) is imperative for use in the sciences where reproducibility is crucial. However, LLMs inherently lack long-term memory, making it a nontrivial, ad hoc, and inevitably biased task to fine-tune them on domain-specific literature and data. Here we introduce LLaMP, a multimodal retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) framework of multiple data-aware reasoning-and-acting (ReAct) agents that dynamically interact with computational and experimental data on Materials Project (MP). Without fine-tuning, LLaMP demonstrates an ability to comprehend and integrate various modalities of materials science concepts, fetch relevant data stores on the fly, process higher-order data (such as crystal structures and elastic tensors), and summarize multi-step procedures for solid-state synthesis. We show that LLaMP effectively corrects errors in GPT-3.5's intrinsic knowledge, reducing a 5.21% MAPE on frequently-documented bandgaps and a significant 1103.54% MAPE on formation energies -- errors that GPT-3.5 seems to derive from mixed data sources. Additionally, LLaMP substantially reduces the hallucinated volumetric strain in a diamond cubic silicon structure from 66.3% to 0. The proposed framework offers an intuitive and nearly hallucination-free approach to exploring materials informatics and establishes a pathway for knowledge distillation and fine-tuning other language models. We envision the framework as a valuable component for scientific hypotheses and a foundation for future autonomous laboratories where multiple LLM agents communicate and cooperate with robotics to drive material synthesis and chemical reactions without hard-coded human logic and intervention.

One of the most critical aspects of multimodal Reinforcement Learning (RL) is the effective integration of different observation modalities. Having robust and accurate representations derived from these modalities is key to enhancing the robustness and sample efficiency of RL algorithms. However, learning representations in RL settings for visuotactile data poses significant challenges, particularly due to the high dimensionality of the data and the complexity involved in correlating visual and tactile inputs with the dynamic environment and task objectives. To address these challenges, we propose Multimodal Contrastive Unsupervised Reinforcement Learning (M2CURL). Our approach employs a novel multimodal self-supervised learning technique that learns efficient representations and contributes to faster convergence of RL algorithms. Our method is agnostic to the RL algorithm, thus enabling its integration with any available RL algorithm. We evaluate M2CURL on the Tactile Gym 2 simulator and we show that it significantly enhances the learning efficiency in different manipulation tasks. This is evidenced by faster convergence rates and higher cumulative rewards per episode, compared to standard RL algorithms without our representation learning approach.

We propose Compact and Swift Segmenting 3D Gaussians(CoSSegGaussians), a method for compact 3D-consistent scene segmentation at fast rendering speed with only RGB images input. Previous NeRF-based segmentation methods have relied on time-consuming neural scene optimization. While recent 3D Gaussian Splatting has notably improved speed, existing Gaussian-based segmentation methods struggle to produce compact masks, especially in zero-shot segmentation. This issue probably stems from their straightforward assignment of learnable parameters to each Gaussian, resulting in a lack of robustness against cross-view inconsistent 2D machine-generated labels. Our method aims to address this problem by employing Dual Feature Fusion Network as Gaussians' segmentation field. Specifically, we first optimize 3D Gaussians under RGB supervision. After Gaussian Locating, DINO features extracted from images are applied through explicit unprojection, which are further incorporated with spatial features from the efficient point cloud processing network. Feature aggregation is utilized to fuse them in a global-to-local strategy for compact segmentation features. Experimental results show that our model outperforms baselines on both semantic and panoptic zero-shot segmentation task, meanwhile consumes less than 10% inference time compared to NeRF-based methods. Background: Single-Subject Design is used in several areas such as education and biomedicine. However, no suited formal vocabulary exists for annotating the detailed configuration and the results of this type of research studies with the appropriate granularity for looking for information about them. Therefore, the search for those study designs relies heavily on a syntactical search on the abstract, keywords or full text of the publications about the study, which entails some limitations. Objective: To present SSDOnt, a specific purpose ontology for describing and annotating single-subject design studies, so that complex questions can be asked about them afterwards. Methods: The ontology was developed following the NeOn methodology. Once the requirements of the ontology were defined, a formal model was described in a Description Logic and later implemented in the ontology language OWL 2 DL. Results: We show how the ontology provides a reference model with a suitable terminology for the annotation and searching of single-subject design studies and their main components, such as the phases, the intervention types, the outcomes and the results. Some mappings with terms of related ontologies have been established. We show as proof-of-concept that classes in the ontology can be easily extended to annotate more precise information about specific interventions and outcomes such as those related to autism. Moreover, we provide examples of some types of queries that can be posed to the ontology. Conclusions: SSDOnt has achieved the purpose of covering the descriptions of the domain of single-subject research studies.

With the recent emergence of mixed precision hardware, there has been a renewed interest in its use for solving numerical linear algebra problems fast and accurately. The solution of least squares (LS) problems $\min_x\|b-Ax\|_2$, where $A \in \mathbb{R}^{m\times n}$, arise in numerous application areas. Overdetermined standard least squares problems can be solved by using mixed precision within the iterative refinement method of Bj\"{o}rck, which transforms the least squares problem into an $(m+n)\times(m+n)$ ''augmented'' system. It has recently been shown that mixed precision GMRES-based iterative refinement can also be used, in an approach termed GMRES-LSIR. In practice, we often encounter types of least squares problems beyond standard least squares, including weighted least squares (WLS), $\min_x\|D^{1/2}(b-Ax)\|_2$, where $D^{1/2}$ is a diagonal matrix of weights. In this paper, we discuss a mixed precision FGMRES-WLSIR algorithm for solving WLS problems using two different preconditioners.

It is well known that it is impossible to construct useful confidence intervals (CIs) about the mean or median of a response $Y$ conditional on features $X = x$ without making strong assumptions about the joint distribution of $X$ and $Y$. This paper introduces a new framework for reasoning about problems of this kind by casting the conditional problem at different levels of resolution, ranging from coarse to fine localization. In each of these problems, we consider local quantiles defined as the marginal quantiles of $Y$ when $(X,Y)$ is resampled in such a way that samples $X$ near $x$ are up-weighted while the conditional distribution $Y \mid X$ does not change. We then introduce the Weighted Quantile method, which asymptotically produces the uniformly most accurate confidence intervals for these local quantiles no matter the (unknown) underlying distribution. Another method, namely, the Quantile Rejection method, achieves finite sample validity under no assumption whatsoever. We conduct extensive numerical studies demonstrating that both of these methods are valid. In particular, we show that the Weighted Quantile procedure achieves nominal coverage as soon as the effective sample size is in the range of 10 to 20.

Leveraging sensing modalities across diverse spatial and temporal resolutions can improve performance of robotic manipulation tasks. Multi-spatial resolution sensing provides hierarchical information captured at different spatial scales and enables both coarse and precise motions. Simultaneously multi-temporal resolution sensing enables the agent to exhibit high reactivity and real-time control. In this work, we propose a framework, MResT (Multi-Resolution Transformer), for learning generalizable language-conditioned multi-task policies that utilize sensing at different spatial and temporal resolutions using networks of varying capacities to effectively perform real time control of precise and reactive tasks. We leverage off-the-shelf pretrained vision-language models to operate on low-frequency global features along with small non-pretrained models to adapt to high frequency local feedback. Through extensive experiments in 3 domains (coarse, precise and dynamic manipulation tasks), we show that our approach significantly improves (2X on average) over recent multi-task baselines. Further, our approach generalizes well to visual and geometric variations in target objects and to varying interaction forces.

Weakly-Supervised Object Detection (WSOD) and Localization (WSOL), i.e., detecting multiple and single instances with bounding boxes in an image using image-level labels, are long-standing and challenging tasks in the CV community. With the success of deep neural networks in object detection, both WSOD and WSOL have received unprecedented attention. Hundreds of WSOD and WSOL methods and numerous techniques have been proposed in the deep learning era. To this end, in this paper, we consider WSOL is a sub-task of WSOD and provide a comprehensive survey of the recent achievements of WSOD. Specifically, we firstly describe the formulation and setting of the WSOD, including the background, challenges, basic framework. Meanwhile, we summarize and analyze all advanced techniques and training tricks for improving detection performance. Then, we introduce the widely-used datasets and evaluation metrics of WSOD. Lastly, we discuss the future directions of WSOD. We believe that these summaries can help pave a way for future research on WSOD and WSOL.
