Gate-defined quantum dots (QDs) have appealing attributes as a quantum computing platform. However, near-term devices possess a range of possible imperfections that need to be accounted for during the tuning and operation of QD devices. One such problem is the capacitive cross-talk between the metallic gates that define and control QD qubits. A way to compensate for the capacitive cross-talk and enable targeted control of specific QDs independent of coupling is by the use of virtual gates. Here, we demonstrate a reliable automated capacitive coupling identification method that combines machine learning with traditional fitting to take advantage of the desirable properties of each. We also show how the cross-capacitance measurement may be used for the identification of spurious QDs sometimes formed during tuning experimental devices. Our systems can autonomously flag devices with spurious dots near the operating regime, which is crucial information for reliable tuning to a regime suitable for qubit operations.

Denoising low-dose computed tomography (CT) images is a critical task in medical image computing. Supervised deep learning-based approaches have made significant advancements in this area in recent years. However, these methods typically require pairs of low-dose and normal-dose CT images for training, which are challenging to obtain in clinical settings. Existing unsupervised deep learning-based methods often require training with a large number of low-dose CT images or rely on specially designed data acquisition processes to obtain training data. To address these limitations, we propose a novel unsupervised method that only utilizes normal-dose CT images during training, enabling zero-shot denoising of low-dose CT images. Our method leverages the diffusion model, a powerful generative model. We begin by training a cascaded unconditional diffusion model capable of generating high-quality normal-dose CT images from low-resolution to high-resolution. The cascaded architecture makes the training of high-resolution diffusion models more feasible. Subsequently, we introduce low-dose CT images into the reverse process of the diffusion model as likelihood, combined with the priors provided by the diffusion model and iteratively solve multiple maximum a posteriori (MAP) problems to achieve denoising. Additionally, we propose methods to adaptively adjust the coefficients that balance the likelihood and prior in MAP estimations, allowing for adaptation to different noise levels in low-dose CT images. We test our method on low-dose CT datasets of different regions with varying dose levels. The results demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art unsupervised method and surpasses several supervised deep learning-based methods. Blockchain (BC) and Computer Vision (CV) are the two emerging fields with the potential to transform various sectors.The ability of BC can help in offering decentralized and secure data storage, while CV allows machines to learn and understand visual data. This integration of the two technologies holds massive promise for developing innovative applications that can provide solutions to the challenges in various sectors such as supply chain management, healthcare, smart cities, and defense. This review explores a comprehensive analysis of the integration of BC and CV by examining their combination and potential applications. It also provides a detailed analysis of the fundamental concepts of both technologies, highlighting their strengths and limitations. This paper also explores current research efforts that make use of the benefits offered by this combination. The effort includes how BC can be used as an added layer of security in CV systems and also ensure data integrity, enabling decentralized image and video analytics using BC. The challenges and open issues associated with this integration are also identified, and appropriate potential future directions are also proposed.

Quantum computing is emerging as an unprecedented threat to the current state of widely used cryptographic systems. Cryptographic methods that have been considered secure for decades will likely be broken, with enormous impact on the security of sensitive data and communications in enterprises worldwide. A plan to migrate to quantum-resistant cryptographic systems is required. However, migrating an enterprise system to ensure a quantum-safe state is a complex process. Enterprises will require systematic guidance to perform this migration to remain resilient in a post-quantum era, as many organisations do not have staff with the expertise to manage this process unaided. This paper presents a comprehensive framework designed to aid enterprises in their migration. The framework articulates key steps and technical considerations in the cryptographic migration process. It makes use of existing organisational inventories and provides a roadmap for prioritising the replacement of cryptosystems in a post-quantum context. The framework enables the efficient identification of cryptographic objects, and can be integrated with other frameworks in enterprise settings to minimise operational disruption during migration. Practical case studies are included to demonstrate the utility and efficacy of the proposed framework using graph theoretic techniques to determine and evaluate cryptographic dependencies.

The modern data economy is built on sharing data. However, sharing data can be an expensive and risky endeavour. Existing sharing systems like Distributed File Systems provide full read, write, and execute Role-based Access Control (RBAC) for sharing data, but can be expensive and difficult to scale. Likewise such systems operate on a binary access model for their data, either a user can read all the data or read none of the data. This approach is not necessary for a more read-only oriented data landscape, and one where data contains many dimensions that represent a risk if overshared. In order to encourage users to share data and smooth out the process of accessing such data a new approach is needed. This new approach must simplify the RBAC of older DFS approaches to something more read-only and something that integrates redaction for user protections. To accomplish this we present CageCoach, a simple sharing-oriented Distributed Cryptographic File System (DCFS). CageCoach leverages the simplicity and speed of basic HTTP, linked data concepts, and automatic redaction systems to facilitate safe and easy sharing of user data. In autonomic computing, self-adaptation has been proposed as a fundamental paradigm to manage the complexity of multiagent systems (MASs). This achieved by extending a system with support to monitor and adapt itself to achieve specific concerns of interest. Communication in these systems is key given that in scenarios involving agent interaction, it enhances cooperation and reduces coordination challenges by enabling direct, clear information exchange. However, improving the expressiveness of the interaction communication with MASs is not without challenges. In this sense, the interplay between self-adaptive systems and effective communication is crucial for future MAS advancements. In this paper, we propose the integration of large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-based technologies into multiagent systems. We anchor our methodology on the MAPE-K model, which is renowned for its robust support in monitoring, analyzing, planning, and executing system adaptations in response to dynamic environments. We also present a practical illustration of the proposed approach, in which we implement and assess a basic MAS-based application. The approach significantly advances the state-of-the-art of self-adaptive systems by proposing a new paradigm for MAS self-adaptation of autonomous systems based on LLM capabilities.

Quadruped locomotion is rapidly maturing to a degree where robots are able to realise highly dynamic manoeuvres. However, current planners are unable to vary key gait parameters of the in-swing feet midair. In this work we address this limitation and show that it is pivotal in increasing controller robustness by learning a latent space capturing the key stance phases constituting a particular gait. This is achieved via a generative model trained on a single trot style, which encourages disentanglement such that application of a drive signal to a single dimension of the latent state induces holistic plans synthesising a continuous variety of trot styles. We demonstrate that specific properties of the drive signal map directly to gait parameters such as cadence, footstep height and full stance duration. Due to the nature of our approach these synthesised gaits are continuously variable online during robot operation. The use of a generative model facilitates the detection and mitigation of disturbances to provide a versatile and robust planning framework. We evaluate our approach on two versions of the real ANYmal quadruped robots and demonstrate that our method achieves a continuous blend of dynamic trot styles whilst being robust and reactive to external perturbations.

Since the cyberspace consolidated as fifth warfare dimension, the different actors of the defense sector began an arms race toward achieving cyber superiority, on which research, academic and industrial stakeholders contribute from a dual vision, mostly linked to a large and heterogeneous heritage of developments and adoption of civilian cybersecurity capabilities. In this context, augmenting the conscious of the context and warfare environment, risks and impacts of cyber threats on kinetic actuations became a critical rule-changer that military decision-makers are considering. A major challenge on acquiring mission-centric Cyber Situational Awareness (CSA) is the dynamic inference and assessment of the vertical propagations from situations that occurred at the mission supportive Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), up to their relevance at military tactical, operational and strategical views. In order to contribute on acquiring CSA, this paper addresses a major gap in the cyber defence state-of-the-art: the dynamic identification of Key Cyber Terrains (KCT) on a mission-centric context. Accordingly, the proposed KCT identification approach explores the dependency degrees among tasks and assets defined by commanders as part of the assessment criteria. These are correlated with the discoveries on the operational network and the asset vulnerabilities identified thorough the supported mission development. The proposal is presented as a reference model that reveals key aspects for mission-centric KCT analysis and supports its enforcement and further enforcement by including an illustrative application case.

We describe ACE0, a lightweight platform for evaluating the suitability and viability of AI methods for behaviour discovery in multiagent simulations. Specifically, ACE0 was designed to explore AI methods for multi-agent simulations used in operations research studies related to new technologies such as autonomous aircraft. Simulation environments used in production are often high-fidelity, complex, require significant domain knowledge and as a result have high R&D costs. Minimal and lightweight simulation environments can help researchers and engineers evaluate the viability of new AI technologies for behaviour discovery in a more agile and potentially cost effective manner. In this paper we describe the motivation for the development of ACE0.We provide a technical overview of the system architecture, describe a case study of behaviour discovery in the aerospace domain, and provide a qualitative evaluation of the system. The evaluation includes a brief description of collaborative research projects with academic partners, exploring different AI behaviour discovery methods.

Driven by the visions of Internet of Things and 5G communications, the edge computing systems integrate computing, storage and network resources at the edge of the network to provide computing infrastructure, enabling developers to quickly develop and deploy edge applications. Nowadays the edge computing systems have received widespread attention in both industry and academia. To explore new research opportunities and assist users in selecting suitable edge computing systems for specific applications, this survey paper provides a comprehensive overview of the existing edge computing systems and introduces representative projects. A comparison of open source tools is presented according to their applicability. Finally, we highlight energy efficiency and deep learning optimization of edge computing systems. Open issues for analyzing and designing an edge computing system are also studied in this survey.

To provide more accurate, diverse, and explainable recommendation, it is compulsory to go beyond modeling user-item interactions and take side information into account. Traditional methods like factorization machine (FM) cast it as a supervised learning problem, which assumes each interaction as an independent instance with side information encoded. Due to the overlook of the relations among instances or items (e.g., the director of a movie is also an actor of another movie), these methods are insufficient to distill the collaborative signal from the collective behaviors of users. In this work, we investigate the utility of knowledge graph (KG), which breaks down the independent interaction assumption by linking items with their attributes. We argue that in such a hybrid structure of KG and user-item graph, high-order relations --- which connect two items with one or multiple linked attributes --- are an essential factor for successful recommendation. We propose a new method named Knowledge Graph Attention Network (KGAT) which explicitly models the high-order connectivities in KG in an end-to-end fashion. It recursively propagates the embeddings from a node's neighbors (which can be users, items, or attributes) to refine the node's embedding, and employs an attention mechanism to discriminate the importance of the neighbors. Our KGAT is conceptually advantageous to existing KG-based recommendation methods, which either exploit high-order relations by extracting paths or implicitly modeling them with regularization. Empirical results on three public benchmarks show that KGAT significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods like Neural FM and RippleNet. Further studies verify the efficacy of embedding propagation for high-order relation modeling and the interpretability benefits brought by the attention mechanism.
