Calibration-based methods have dominated RAW image denoising under extremely low-light environments. However, these methods suffer from several main deficiencies: 1) the calibration procedure is laborious and time-consuming, 2) denoisers for different cameras are difficult to transfer, and 3) the discrepancy between synthetic noise and real noise is enlarged by high digital gain. To overcome the above shortcomings, we propose a calibration-free pipeline for Lighting Every Drakness (LED), regardless of the digital gain or camera sensor. Instead of calibrating the noise parameters and training repeatedly, our method could adapt to a target camera only with few-shot paired data and fine-tuning. In addition, well-designed structural modification during both stages alleviates the domain gap between synthetic and real noise without any extra computational cost. With 2 pairs for each additional digital gain (in total 6 pairs) and 0.5% iterations, our method achieves superior performance over other calibration-based methods. Large-scale text-to-image generative models have been a ground-breaking development in generative AI, with diffusion models showing their astounding ability to synthesize convincing images following an input text prompt. The goal of image editing research is to give users control over the generated images by modifying the text prompt. Current image editing techniques are susceptible to unintended modifications of regions outside the targeted area, such as on the background or on distractor objects which have some semantic or visual relationship with the targeted object. According to our experimental findings, inaccurate cross-attention maps are at the root of this problem. Based on this observation, we propose Dynamic Prompt Learning (DPL) to force cross-attention maps to focus on correct noun words in the text prompt. By updating the dynamic tokens for nouns in the textual input with the proposed leakage repairment losses, we achieve fine-grained image editing over particular objects while preventing undesired changes to other image regions. Our method DPL, based on the publicly available Stable Diffusion, is extensively evaluated on a wide range of images, and consistently obtains superior results both quantitatively (CLIP score, Structure-Dist) and qualitatively (on user-evaluation). We show improved prompt editing results for Word-Swap, Prompt Refinement, and Attention Re-weighting, especially for complex multi-object scenes.
Getting precise aspects of road through segmentation from remote sensing imagery is useful for many real-world applications such as autonomous vehicles, urban development and planning, and achieving sustainable development goals. Roads are only a small part of the image, and their appearance, type, width, elevation, directions, etc. exhibit large variations across geographical areas. Furthermore, due to differences in urbanization styles, planning, and the natural environments; regions along the roads vary significantly. Due to these variations among the train and test domains, the road segmentation algorithms fail to generalize to new geographical locations. Unlike the generic domain alignment scenarios, road segmentation has no scene structure, and generic domain adaptation methods are unable to enforce topological properties like continuity, connectivity, smoothness, etc., thus resulting in degraded domain alignment. In this work, we propose a topology-aware unsupervised domain adaptation approach for road segmentation in remote sensing imagery. Specifically, we predict road skeleton, an auxiliary task to impose the topological constraints. To enforce consistent predictions of road and skeleton, especially in the unlabeled target domain, the conformity loss is defined across the skeleton prediction head and the road-segmentation head. Furthermore, for self-training, we filter out the noisy pseudo-labels by using a connectivity-based pseudo-labels refinement strategy, on both road and skeleton segmentation heads, thus avoiding holes and discontinuities. Extensive experiments on the benchmark datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed approach compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. Specifically, for SpaceNet to DeepGlobe adaptation, the proposed approach outperforms the competing methods by a minimum margin of 6.6%, 6.7%, and 9.8% in IoU, F1-score, and APLS, respectively.
Text-conditional image editing is a very useful task that has recently emerged with immeasurable potential. Most current real image editing methods first need to complete the reconstruction of the image, and then editing is carried out by various methods based on the reconstruction. Most methods use DDIM Inversion for reconstruction, however, DDIM Inversion often fails to guarantee reconstruction performance, i.e., it fails to produce results that preserve the original image content. To address the problem of reconstruction failure, we propose FEC, which consists of three sampling methods, each designed for different editing types and settings. Our three methods of FEC achieve two important goals in image editing task: 1) ensuring successful reconstruction, i.e., sampling to get a generated result that preserves the texture and features of the original real image. 2) these sampling methods can be paired with many editing methods and greatly improve the performance of these editing methods to accomplish various editing tasks. In addition, none of our sampling methods require fine-tuning of the diffusion model or time-consuming training on large-scale datasets. Hence the cost of time as well as the use of computer memory and computation can be significantly reduced.
Although many effective models and real-world datasets have been presented for blind image quality assessment (BIQA), recent BIQA models usually tend to fit specific training set. Hence, it is still difficult to accurately and robustly measure the visual quality of an arbitrary real-world image. In this paper, a robust BIQA method, is designed based on three aspects, i.e., robust training strategy, large-scale real-world dataset, and powerful backbone. First, many individual models based on popular and state-of-the-art (SOTA) Swin-Transformer (SwinT) are trained on different real-world BIQA datasets respectively. Then, these biased SwinT-based models are jointly used to generate pseudo-labels, which adopts the probability of relative quality of two random images instead of fixed quality score. A large-scale real-world image dataset with 1,000,000 image pairs and pseudo-labels is then proposed for training the final cross-dataset-robust model. Experimental results on cross-dataset tests show that the performance of the proposed method is even better than some SOTA methods that are directly trained on these datasets, thus verifying the robustness and generalization of our method.
Diffusion probabilistic models (DPMs) have demonstrated a very promising ability in high-resolution image synthesis. However, sampling from a pre-trained DPM is time-consuming due to the multiple evaluations of the denoising network, making it more and more important to accelerate the sampling of DPMs. Despite recent progress in designing fast samplers, existing methods still cannot generate satisfying images in many applications where fewer steps (e.g., $<$10) are favored. In this paper, we develop a unified corrector (UniC) that can be applied after any existing DPM sampler to increase the order of accuracy without extra model evaluations, and derive a unified predictor (UniP) that supports arbitrary order as a byproduct. Combining UniP and UniC, we propose a unified predictor-corrector framework called UniPC for the fast sampling of DPMs, which has a unified analytical form for any order and can significantly improve the sampling quality over previous methods, especially in extremely few steps. We evaluate our methods through extensive experiments including both unconditional and conditional sampling using pixel-space and latent-space DPMs. Our UniPC can achieve 3.87 FID on CIFAR10 (unconditional) and 7.51 FID on ImageNet 256$\times$256 (conditional) with only 10 function evaluations. Learning-based methods have attracted a lot of research attention and led to significant improvements in low-light image enhancement. However, most of them still suffer from two main problems: expensive computational cost in high resolution images and unsatisfactory performance in simultaneous enhancement and denoising. To address these problems, we propose BDCE, a bootstrap diffusion model that exploits the learning of the distribution of the curve parameters instead of the normal-light image itself. Specifically, we adopt the curve estimation method to handle the high-resolution images, where the curve parameters are estimated by our bootstrap diffusion model. In addition, a denoise module is applied in each iteration of curve adjustment to denoise the intermediate enhanced result of each iteration. We evaluate BDCE on commonly used benchmark datasets, and extensive experiments show that it achieves state-of-the-art qualitative and quantitative performance.
Learning to compose visual relationships from raw images in the form of scene graphs is a highly challenging task due to contextual dependencies, but it is essential in computer vision applications that depend on scene understanding. However, no current approaches in Scene Graph Generation (SGG) aim at providing useful graphs for downstream tasks. Instead, the main focus has primarily been on the task of unbiasing the data distribution for predicting more fine-grained relations. That being said, all fine-grained relations are not equally relevant and at least a part of them are of no use for real-world applications. In this work, we introduce the task of Efficient SGG that prioritizes the generation of relevant relations, facilitating the use of Scene Graphs in downstream tasks such as Image Generation. To support further approaches, we present a new dataset, VG150-curated, based on the annotations of the popular Visual Genome dataset. We show through a set of experiments that this dataset contains more high-quality and diverse annotations than the one usually use in SGG. Finally, we show the efficiency of this dataset in the task of Image Generation from Scene Graphs.
Graph Hypernetworks (GHN) can predict the parameters of varying unseen CNN architectures with surprisingly good accuracy at a fraction of the cost of iterative optimization. Following these successes, preliminary research has explored the use of GHNs to predict quantization-robust parameters for 8-bit and 4-bit quantized CNNs. However, this early work leveraged full-precision float32 training and only quantized for testing. We explore the impact of quantization-aware training and/or other quantization-based training strategies on quantized robustness and performance of GHN predicted parameters for low-precision CNNs. We show that quantization-aware training can significantly improve quantized accuracy for GHN predicted parameters of 4-bit quantized CNNs and even lead to greater-than-random accuracy for 2-bit quantized CNNs. These promising results open the door for future explorations such as investigating the use of GHN predicted parameters as initialization for further quantized training of individual CNNs, further exploration of "extreme bitwidth" quantization, and mixed precision quantization schemes.
We describe ACE0, a lightweight platform for evaluating the suitability and viability of AI methods for behaviour discovery in multiagent simulations. Specifically, ACE0 was designed to explore AI methods for multi-agent simulations used in operations research studies related to new technologies such as autonomous aircraft. Simulation environments used in production are often high-fidelity, complex, require significant domain knowledge and as a result have high R&D costs. Minimal and lightweight simulation environments can help researchers and engineers evaluate the viability of new AI technologies for behaviour discovery in a more agile and potentially cost effective manner. In this paper we describe the motivation for the development of ACE0.We provide a technical overview of the system architecture, describe a case study of behaviour discovery in the aerospace domain, and provide a qualitative evaluation of the system. The evaluation includes a brief description of collaborative research projects with academic partners, exploring different AI behaviour discovery methods.
Translational distance-based knowledge graph embedding has shown progressive improvements on the link prediction task, from TransE to the latest state-of-the-art RotatE. However, N-1, 1-N and N-N predictions still remain challenging. In this work, we propose a novel translational distance-based approach for knowledge graph link prediction. The proposed method includes two-folds, first we extend the RotatE from 2D complex domain to high dimension space with orthogonal transforms to model relations for better modeling capacity. Second, the graph context is explicitly modeled via two directed context representations. These context representations are used as part of the distance scoring function to measure the plausibility of the triples during training and inference. The proposed approach effectively improves prediction accuracy on the difficult N-1, 1-N and N-N cases for knowledge graph link prediction task. The experimental results show that it achieves better performance on two benchmark data sets compared to the baseline RotatE, especially on data set (FB15k-237) with many high in-degree connection nodes.
