The long-term dynamics of particles involved in an incompressible flow with a small viscosity ($\epsilon>0$) and slow chemical reactions, is depicted by a class of stochastic reaction-diffusion-advection (RDA) equations with a fast advection term of magnitude $1/\epsilon$. It has been shown in [7] the fast advection asymptotics of stochastic RDA equation in $\mathbb{R}^2$ can be characterized through a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) on the graph associated with certain Hamiltonian. To simulate such fast advection asymptotics, we introduce and study an asymptotic-preserving (AP) exponential Euler approximation for the multiscale stochastic RDA equation. There are three key ingredients in proving asymptotic-preserving property of the proposed approximation. First, a strong error estimate, which depends on $1/\epsilon$ linearly, is obtained via a variational argument. Second, we prove the consistency of exponential Euler approximations on the fast advection asymptotics between the original problem and the SPDE on graph. Last, a graph weighted space is introduced to quantify the approximation error for SPDE on graph, which avoids the possible singularity near the vertices. Numerical experiments are carried out to support the theoretical results.

We consider the dynamics of $n$ points on a sphere in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d \geq 2$) which attract each other according to a function $\varphi$ of their inner products. When $\varphi$ is linear ($\varphi(t) = t$), the points converge to a common value (i.e., synchronize) in various connectivity scenarios: this is part of classical work on Kuramoto oscillator networks. When $\varphi$ is exponential ($\varphi(t) = e^{\beta t}$), these dynamics correspond to a limit of how idealized transformers process data, as described by Geshkovski et al. (2024). Accordingly, they ask whether synchronization occurs for exponential $\varphi$. In the context of consensus for multi-agent control, Markdahl et al. It is difficult to predict the position of body parts when they are not visible in the image, and geometric mathematical methods are not entirely suitable for this purpose. Therefore, we created a dataset with artificial images of a 3D human model, specifically for painful postures, and real human photos from different viewpoints. Each image we captured was based on a predefined joint angle for each 3D model or human model. We created various images, including images where some body parts are not visible. Nevertheless, the joint angle is estimated beforehand, so we could study the case by converting the input images into the sequence of joint connections between predefined body parts and extracting the desired joint angle with a convolutional neural network. In the end, we obtained root mean square error (RMSE) of 12.89 and mean absolute error (MAE) of 4.7 on the test dataset.

This work is concerned with the construction and analysis of structure-preserving Galerkin methods for computing the dynamics of rotating Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) based on the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with angular momentum rotation. Due to the presence of the rotation term, constructing finite element methods (FEMs) that preserve both mass and energy remains an unresolved issue, particularly in the context of nonconforming FEMs. Furthermore, in comparison to existing works, we provide a comprehensive convergence analysis, offering a thorough demonstration of the methods' optimal and high-order convergence properties. Finally, extensive numerical results are presented to check the theoretical analysis of the structure-preserving numerical method for rotating BEC, and the quantized vortex lattice's behavior is scrutinized through a series of numerical tests.

We study the problem of training diffusion models to sample from a distribution with a given unnormalized density or energy function. We benchmark several diffusion-structured inference methods, including simulation-based variational approaches and off-policy methods (continuous generative flow networks). Our results shed light on the relative advantages of existing algorithms while bringing into question some claims from past work. We also propose a novel exploration strategy for off-policy methods, based on local search in the target space with the use of a replay buffer, and show that it improves the quality of samples on a variety of target distributions. Our code for the sampling methods and benchmarks studied is made public at //github.com/GFNOrg/gfn-diffusion as a base for future work on diffusion models for amortized inference.

If the same data is used for both clustering and for testing a null hypothesis that is formulated in terms of the estimated clusters, then the traditional hypothesis testing framework often fails to control the Type I error. Gao et al. [2022] and Chen and Witten [2023] provide selective inference frameworks for testing if a pair of estimated clusters indeed stem from underlying differences, for the case where hierarchical clustering and K-means clustering, respectively, are used to define the clusters. In our work, we extend the pairwise test of Chen and Witten [2023] to a test for multiple pairs of clusters, where the cluster assignments are produced by K-means clustering. We further develop an analogous test for the setting where the variance is unknown, building on the work of Yun and Barber [2023] that extends Gao et al. [2022]'s pairwise test to the case of unknown variance. For both known and unknown variance settings, we present methods that address certain forms of data-dependence in the choice of pairs of clusters to test for. We show that our proposed tests control the Type I error, both theoretically and empirically, and provide a numerical study of their empirical powers under various settings.

This paper focuses on the numerical scheme for delay-type stochastic McKean-Vlasov equations (DSMVEs) driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H\in (0,1/2)\cup (1/2,1)$. The existence and uniqueness of the solutions to such DSMVEs whose drift coefficients contain polynomial delay terms are proved by exploting the Banach fixed point theorem. Then the propagation of chaos between interacting particle system and non-interacting system in $\mathcal{L}^p$ sense is shown. We find that even if the delay term satisfies the polynomial growth condition, the unmodified classical Euler-Maruyama scheme still can approximate the corresponding interacting particle system without the particle corruption. The convergence rates are revealed for $H\in (0,1/2)\cup (1/2,1)$. Finally, as an example that closely fits the original equation, a stochastic opinion dynamics model with both extrinsic memory and intrinsic memory is simulated to illustrate the plausibility of the theoretical result.

A graph class is said to be tame if there exists a polynomial upper bound for the number of minimal separators of every graph in the class, and feral if it contains arbitrarily large graphs with exponentially many minimal separators. Building on recent works of Gartland and Lokshtanov [SODA 2023] and Gajarsk\'y, Jaffke, Lima, Novotn\'a, Pilipczuk, Rz\k{a}\.zewski, and Souza [arXiv, 2022], we show that every graph class defined by a single forbidden induced minor or induced topological minor is either tame or feral, and classify the two cases. This leads to new graph classes in which Maximum Weight Independent Set and many other problems are solvable in polynomial time. We complement the classification results with polynomial-time recognition algorithms for the maximal tame graph classes appearing in the obtained classifications.

Untargeted metabolomic profiling through liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) measures a vast array of metabolites within biospecimens, advancing drug development, disease diagnosis, and risk prediction. However, the low throughput of LC-MS poses a major challenge for biomarker discovery, annotation, and experimental comparison, necessitating the merging of multiple datasets. Current data pooling methods encounter practical limitations due to their vulnerability to data variations and hyperparameter dependence. Here we introduce GromovMatcher, a flexible and user-friendly algorithm that automatically combines LC-MS datasets using optimal transport. By capitalizing on feature intensity correlation structures, GromovMatcher delivers superior alignment accuracy and robustness compared to existing approaches. This algorithm scales to thousands of features requiring minimal hyperparameter tuning. Manually curated datasets for validating alignment algorithms are limited in the field of untargeted metabolomics, and hence we develop a dataset split procedure to generate pairs of validation datasets to test the alignments produced by GromovMatcher and other methods. Applying our method to experimental patient studies of liver and pancreatic cancer, we discover shared metabolic features related to patient alcohol intake, demonstrating how GromovMatcher facilitates the search for biomarkers associated with lifestyle risk factors linked to several cancer types.

However, such families are often characterized by a simple expression of the corresponding Laplace transform. Relying on the Laplace transform, we propose to carry out parameter estimation and goodness-of-fit testing for a general class of non-standard laws. We suggest a novel data-driven inferential technique, providing parameter estimators and goodness-of-fit tests, whose large-sample properties are derived. The implementation of the method is specifically considered for the positive stable and Tweedie distributions. A Monte Carlo study shows good finite-sample performance of the proposed technique for such laws.
